Seymour signes his $12.4 million tender...Raiders must be in Cap Hell?

When Seymour signed his tender yesterday, I was not surprised by the dollar value, given the high salaries of the top 5 DE's. Its a ridiculous amount of money for one year, but what choice did the Raiders have after trading their 2011 first for him?
It got me thinking about all the silly money contracts that the Raiders have thrown around the last couple of years.
How on earth are the Raiders not in cap hell?
Are they spending big money on the top level of players while ignoring the middle and lower tier players on the team? Are they stacked with vets playing for the minimum?
I wonder how they are pulling these big contracts off? I just don't get it!
How they are managing their cap has a direct impact on the Pats, seeing as we have their first rounder next year. I would like their pick to be a top 5, which we can then spin into a variety of options, depending on how the draft unfolds.

Admittedly, I don't have a good handle on the expired CBA and all that it entails.

This is an uncapped year. No salary cap. Also no salary floor. Teams can spend as much or as little as they want in 2010.

Seymour's contract is for one year; therefore it has no impact on whatever the cap may end up being in future years.

Cutting JaMarcus Russell has no impact in terms of a cap hit in a similar way; no salary cap in 2010, therefore no hit to their cap since there is no cap.

The earliest the Raiders would have to be concerned with cap problems due to contracts players like Asomugha, Janikowski, Lechler and others signed would be 2011, assuming a new CBA is agreed upon by then with a tighter salary cap.

Like others have said, there is no cap. That's why it doesn't really affect the Dolphins so much to sign Marshall and Dansby to near record contracts at their positions. If you have the money and you are smart, you front-load these contracts to cover yourself for any kind of f-ed up ramifications moves like these might happen with the new CBA, whenever that happens.

Think they'll just have to start over in square one when the cap does come back, and it had better.

Right now you can spend all you want, but what I don't like is how players that would normally be unrestricted free agents are now restricted. That's BS...you have to give up draft picks in trades where you otherwise wouldn't, and you also have to bargain with the player's current team, whereas you previously didn't have to. Don't like that at all.

Something has to be done to bring back a cap, and that has to include a rookie salary cap. The amount of money the top guys in the draft see is completely ridiculous. What'd JaMarcus Russel see, like $32 million in guaranteed money or something? He sucks. Dunno how much money he actually saw, but it was at least $32 million, and that's like stealing. He's the poster boy for a rookie salary cap. You have players like Stafford seeing as much money as Tom Brady's neighborhood.

Though there is no cap, there are still restrictions on the contracts that players can sign.. The 30% rule is in effect.

Well if we allocate 75% of salary for tackles and 25% for sacks.

Based on 2009 numbers:

$775,000 per sack ... he had 4.

$197,872.34 for each tackle which was 30 solo and 17 assisted.

There is no cap this year. Otherwise the Raiders would have had to release a lot of players to accommodate having both Seymour and Asomugha on their roster this year.
