I must admit (I must've been asleep the past few weeks) I was wondering why Willie Andrews was playing in so many nickel packages today. Then Jim Nantz informed that #38 is Ray Mickens. I know we picked Mickens up a couple of weeks ago and have always been impressed by his play with the Jets, but hadn't quite heard that he took Andrews' number.

In the meantime, I thought Mickens played great today. There had been some written the past few weeks that he had the BB D system down cold from the 90's and there wouldn't be much transition needed for him. Looks like that is the case.

Great pickup who will be a key veteran depth guy in the playoffs (and will hopefully keep troy Brown concentrating solely on Offense).

Him and Gaffney, helluva pair of pickups. When I first saw him, I was hoping the new #38 wouldn't be going for face masks...

Willie Andrews has actually had #23 since the beginning of the season, when Warfield was cut.

I must admit I was wodnering why a thread wasn't started on him in previous weeks.

The guys name is not mentionned which means he's not making mistakes or getting burnt.

I'm pretty shocked they were able to get Mickens and Gaffney into the season.

Consider Hawkins last year and they do a great job of picking guys up and acclimating to their system.

Wait a second Warfield was cut? NNNNNNNOOOO!

I agree with the original post, Mickens is playing well and seems to love covering the slot receiver. I hope we don't hear his name the rest of the playoffs!

It took a couple of good games by Mickens before I could forgive the FO for cutting Poteat and replacing him on the roster with Spann.

In the Detroit game Furrey, the slot rec.,got us for 11 catches, the next game was Ray's first and he shut down Welker. Been good ever since.

    That's why Parcells' son-in-law
    earns such big bux
that not even Paul Allen can lure him.

Spann is still taking up precious roster space. Then again, so is Marquise Hill. And it should be either Mays or Alexander, not both; a vet LB with one of those 2 JAGs would have me sleep better at night, esp. with a UDFA rookie (Woods) backing up both OLB spots.

But hold on, Mays started the season on the practice squad...THREE vet LBs are on injured reserve! Who is supposed to be there in place of Mays at this point?

Still another vet LB, just as another vet CB (Mickens) was brought aboard.

I know I'm nitpicking here, esp. after a terrific win, but one more LB injury, and we are effed.

Too bad Spann made a great STs play to corner Justin Miller Sunday, the Pats would otherwise have had justification to cut him and grab a veteran LB off the couch. **sigh** Now they'll probably stick with Spann and see if he can also develop into a decent mid-tier CB. :(
