Rapoport: Mayo in good spirits, tells teammate injury is "nothing serious"

Does anyone feel like posting a YouTube video of the injury so we can speculate over the injury like little [medical] school girls?

They only showed the play one time on the broadcast and it didn't look terrible.

I hate that they cut to commercial, so we were deprived of what the training staff was doing to him - does anyone who was at the game know if they performed the ACL test on him on the field? It didn't look like it to me. Knock on wood, but I'm thinking worst case is an MCL injury, which doesn't keep him out long. They were looking at the inside of his knee when he was on the field - and that would be consistent with MCL, not an ACL injury.

He was on his back for a long time on the field as trainers did the usual "knee-flex" test. Then he went to the bench where they checked him out some more, and shortly after escorted him to the locker room. He walked under his own power, but then, so did Brady last year. He didn't return to the sideline. My guess is it's serious enough to keep him out at least a while

Play next week against the Jets? I missed the first quarter of the game, but if he was limping into the locker room with a "knee injury" and never returned to the game, why is there any reason to think he'll play next week? I mean, I"m not saying that it's a guarantee that he'll be put on IR, or miss a couple months, but there's also no reason to say he definitely won't.

Perhaps i'm just sensitive to the whole Brady injury, but knee injuries can be sensitive things.

Is there any reason at all to be optimistic about Mayo playing in the next few weeks? How did he look when he was limping to the locker room? How long was he treated on the field by the staff? What was the facial expression? I missed the first quarter so if anyoen could help me out here it would be great!

I never once saw him go into the locker room. As far as I saw, he remained on the sidelines throughout the night. I could be wrong though...

Re: Rapoport: Mayo in good spirits, tells teammate it's "nothing serious"

Maybe my lip reading needs work, but did anyone else see BB spout "Damn", in one of the camera closeups, when he saw Mayo was injured? I think Patriots Nation was collectively thinking that as well. :)

Actually I was thinking "F$#k."

Let's hope this is true.

Knee injuries are impossible to speculate on. Torn ACLs can look like nothing and the player can still walk and sometimes even finish the games. Then minor injuries can look completely awful, but end up being nothing. The reality is, we won't know the truth until the injury report comes out. The true pain/effect of knee injuries often come the next morning.

I am hoping its only a strain on the ligament and we see him back in 2 weeks

God I hope we don't call Seau up right now

My take is, if it were a MAJOR knee injury, it would have been announced already. Just like Brady's was announced the next day, as well as Urlacher's. Then again, it was a night game. I think, best case scenerio, he's gonna miss a few games, otherwise he would have been back in the game. Worst case, I don't wanna think about it. It's really my fault, got a Tom Brady jersey before last season, and he blows out his knee in the first game, just got my Mayo jersey the other day, hopefully it's not the same case. No more jersey's for me !

He went to the locker room and wasn't on the sidelines for the rest of the game.

WEEI's 'the big show' just said that from everything they have been hearing (none of it from the pats) that it's probably going to be 6 weeks. That sucks, but it's better than the season.

Wow that sucks

Thanks for the info. If they did the knee test and he went to he bench before going to the locker room, that suggests he passed the ACL test at least. Brady failed the knee test on the field and they took him off to the locker room b/c they knew his season was done at that point and needed the MRI to confirm.

That's great news IMO (six weeks) - gives him time to round into shape for the stretch run.

Yeah, that sucks real bad. At least they can plan for however many games it is going in as opposed to expecting him to play but we're already very thin there. Seau said he had 6 games in him, I don't think he meant these 6 games though ;)

If he really is hurt and is going to miss that amount of time, I expect Seau or another LB added in the next day or two. Lets hope nobody is brought it though, that will be an excellent sign.

And the similarities continue from 2003.

-Brady coming off of injury prior year- )02 shoulder speration)
-Revamped secondary from prior year
-Play Buffalo first
-Major player lost for 6 games (Ted Washington vs Mayo)
-Coming off a year in which we tied for division, but did not make the playoffs.

Ok I'm stretching...

I passed the ACL test twice by 2 diff doctors ..... then MRI and my ACL was blown to bits and meniscus damage. but Mayo's injury did not look terrible.... I would say sprained MCL

Interesting, thanks for the tidbit - sprained MCL for Mayo would be both a bummer and a huge relief at the same time.

6 weeks takes us exactly to the bye. Some tough games in there but after the bye is vs. Miami, @ Indy, vs. Jets so if he's out about 6 weeks I would think they'll be targeting a Week 8 return.
