Rapoport: Mayo in good spirits, tells teammate injury is "nothing serious"

It was hard to hear the questions, but I thought somebody asked BB how Mayo was, and he said something to the effect that he'll be fine, "he's a tough kid". Instead of being evasive, I thought that comment bodes well for Mayo's condition. Doesn't sound like a big deal.

When Mayo plays a game I'll believe he's healthy. I don't trust a single word that comes out of Belichick's locker room on an injury. He didn't play a single down after an apparent knee injury. The Patriots are playing the Jets next week. He'll report a torn ACL as a minor sprain until he has to issue the official injury report.

im guessing sprained or strained ligament, hyperextension..definitely not a torn ligament tho from the looks of it..

Thanks Doc! While your at it, I've got this sore shoulder lately.......Whadda ya think Doc?

There goes Todd Light running his mouth to reporters again.

I don't think Gruden picked up on that until the fourth quarter. And someone had to tell him, because he suddenly started saying it as Matt Light.

That was hilarious. He kept making the mistake over and over. It's not like Matt Light is some no name guy either. He's a pro-bowler on a team that gets 30 minutes of discussion out of a 90 minute Sportscenter.

BB comments to come:

-The injury report will be out later in the week

-Mayo is questionable with a leg injury/lower extremity injury

No, BB's response to that question is, "I don't have an update to give you." :(

The "tough kid" was a reference to the guy in my sig. :)

Good. We're going to need him back next week. He, TBC, and A.D. can make for an effective pass rush against the Jets, especially when Mayo going up the middle.

Damn!!! I have J.Mayo in my Fantasy Football League!! I hope he's ok for the team's sake though. Good luck, rest that knee.

scenarios for BB's next presser

Scenario 1: the injury is not serious and he'll be practicing on Wednesday

Q: How's Jerod doing? It looks like he took a pretty bad hit there.
A: He has a sore leg but he was walking around OK in the locker room afterwards. We're evaluating him and will let you know more later in the week.
Q: Is there any chance he won't be able to play next week or maybe be even more seriously injured?
A: I think I've said all I'm going to say on that for now. Next question.

Scenario 2: the injury is season ending

We need Mayo out there if we want to get the AFCE.
Good news

Play next week against the Jets? I missed the first quarter of the game, but if he was limping into the locker room with a "knee injury" and never returned to the game, why is there any reason to think he'll play next week? I mean, I"m not saying that it's a guarantee that he'll be put on IR, or miss a couple months, but there's also no reason to say he definitely won't.

Perhaps i'm just sensitive to the whole Brady injury, but knee injuries can be sensitive things.

Is there any reason at all to be optimistic about Mayo playing in the next few weeks? How did he look when he was limping to the locker room? How long was he treated on the field by the staff? What was the facial expression? I missed the first quarter so if anyoen could help me out here it would be great!

God no...... With comments like that his career is likely over.

Seau is on BB's speed dial, no?

I hate that they cut to commercial, so we were deprived of what the training staff was doing to him - does anyone who was at the game know if they performed the ACL test on him on the field? It didn't look like it to me. Knock on wood, but I'm thinking worst case is an MCL injury, which doesn't keep him out long. They were looking at the inside of his knee when he was on the field - and that would be consistent with MCL, not an ACL injury.

If Mayo ever comes back, you can be absolutely sure he will come back too early and will be hobbled the rest of the season.

Why, you might ask? One reason is that Mayo will tell the coaches that the knee is better than it really is, but the big reason is that GUYTON SUCKS. Guyton almost cost the Pats the game; he seems incapable of stopping the screen.

I think someone said he shook off the limp pretty quick.

He played with a torn up shoulder last year. If he CAN play, you can bet he'll push the issue.

Can someone confirm that it bent out, rather than in, like TB's?

Someone stepped on the outside of his ankle and it looked like it bent inwards. Least thats what it looked like.

I distinctly remember seeing him on the sidelines standing and flexing the leg, then hopping gingerly up and down to loosen it up. Nothing like Brady's situation. However, afterwards I did notice a moderate limp.
