I expect more from Jaws, but at the same time I respect him too much to worry about this one blunder :)

Sounds like ESPN trying to cause more grief for the Pats since the alleged boycott.

ESPN is becoming a "Mickey Mouse operation".

Re: Rumor Of Moss Deal Implosion Not True

That was my thought as well.

And since when would Belichick or anyone in the Patriots organization officially announce a signing that wasn't official?

Miami? Possibly, though I'm sure things are going to be different there now that they signed Calvin Pace.

But the Patriots? I think not.

Re: Rumor Of Moss Deal Implosion Not True

    AH...No.

ESPN wouldn't tell Jaws to go on the air and start a "rumor" that the deal is falling apart.

ESPN does not "need" the patriots in the off-season. They do "need" them once the season starts. They have roughly 5 months to mend the fence.

My guess, Jaws heard something from someone, didn't check it, said it, and it's not true. Shame on Jaws. Should have done his homework like he usually does. He got caught. This was a Jaws thing, not an ESPN thing. Get over it people.

You're right. ESPN set Jaws up because he has been mostly pro-Pats in the past....

    How's that?

Surprising that Jaws actually said this.
I read it this morning, but I figured it was BS started by Eagles fans/Pats haters.

I don't understand how he could make this mistake?

You would think an outfit like ESPN would at least make some small effort to verify before putting it out there. Makes them look bad, real bad.

Re: Rumor Of Moss Deal Implosion Not True

Chill out, Dude! Two ESPN employees, Hoge and Jackson, have been Pats haters for years. It is not about needs and wants, it is about causing grief, and they are trying.

Luckily, it bugs us fans but not the team. It was irresponsible journalism on Jaworski's part, which reflects on his employer.

You have made what you call a "guess." Don't let your head get so big having made a guess that you can tell others to "get over" what they believe.

Re: Rumor Of Moss Deal Implosion Not True

I still would like to know the context it was said and WHAT exactly was said. PFT saying it was confirmed via phone call to the studio...ok???? Who confirmed it the "studio", the security guard? The janitor?, The receptionist? or did he speak with one of the people that were in studio when the comment was made? Did Florio make the call or did a poster claim to have called?

I say all of this because Jaws really seems to be one of the most prepared football people on air and usually has something to back it up. I don't always agree with him but he doesn't have full blown blinders on a'la Steve "one to many concussions" Young....but it is driven by his actual football opinion not anything else IMO.

Florio throws Sh t against the wall constantly and sees what sticks....beagles fans???? Yeah there is an intelligent fan base....

I am sure there is something to this where Jaws said something but really I want to hear the context of what he said and why....there is just so few mediots with any intelligence I want to wait until the FACTS are in before even saying anything negative about the "comment". Especially considering that the "reporter" is known to exaggerate and flat out make up stuff in the past.

Re: Even More Proof That This Rumor Was False

More from PFT - this also ties in to the rumor of the Patriots freezing out ESPN and its people :

"MAXWELL NO-SHOWS THE ROOT OF JAWS' FALSE RUMOR-MONGERING?

So why did ESPN's Ron Jaworski throw a big, fat, stinky Patriots rumor against the wall during a Friday afternoon visit with our pal Jody Mac of Sports Radio 950 in Philly?

Here's a theory. Jaws was smarting because Pats coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady opted not to show up for Friday night's Maxwell Football Club awards ceremony. Belichick was slated to personally receive the Greasy Neale Pro Coach of the Year award and Brady was due to pick up the Bert Bell Pro Player of the Year prize.

Jaws, you see, is the President of the Maxwell Club. He announced Belichick and Brady as winners on January 3.

Indeed, a media insider expressed to us last month in response to Jaworski's inexplicable defense of videotaping an opponent's walk-through practice that Jaws' "I'm okay with it" stance was based on the reality that Jaworski couldn't and wouldn't criticize the Patriots for fear of Brady and/or Belichick not showing up for the ceremony. (There's been no hard proof that the Patriots videotaped the Rams' walk-through practice prior to Super Bowl XXXVI, or any other walk-through practice.)

Now that Belichick and Brady didn't show anyway, it'll be interesting to see whether Jaws changes his tune. As to Friday's suggestion by Jaws that receiver Randy Moss might still be available to the highest bidder based on rumors that the Pats were reneging on his verbal deal, Jaworski already might be showing an inclination to bash the Pats."

If this is true, than shame on Jaws, he owns a club , by me, even though he is a off hands owner.

Anyone notice that Mike Reiss didn't even touch this story? That's why I trust him. I'll get my Partriots updates from Mike and Schefter thank you very much. EVERYBODY AT ESPN CAN GO... expletive... themselves!!

Re: Even More Proof That This Rumor Was False

And the no show by Belichick and Brady would play into the whole notion of a boycott of ESPN and the talking heads by the entire Pats organization.......MAybe there is something to it..Good for them. It's time they got a taste of their own medicine...Let's see ESPN respond or even mention it.......not likely...

Smart move on Jaworski's part. Now everyone knows the veracity of his reports are contingent on whether he has a vested interest in the subject.

    Goodbye credibility

Jaws probably got sold on a rogue story ... he's too smart for this and I bet he'll not be so trusting anymore. My impression of Jaws is that he generally likes the Patriots and appreciates the excellance of the orginization so I have no problemo saying no problemo to this one.
