WR/TE Dickerson added to practice squad - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

I remember he was on the radar going into the draft for some, myself included.

The circumstances surrounding his departure from Pittsburgh, and the fact that he was already cut by the Texans are disconcerting - but he certainly has intriguing physical talents. Unlike Houston, I doubt we would try to convert him purely to wideout, but use him the way we use Hernandez as a bit of a hybrid guy.

Worth keeping an eye on. Ideally, he provides a good layer of depth behind Hernandez, who is critical to our offense, but has been banged up before.

He was dynamite at Pitt, maybe the Pats can figure a way to use him, Pitt used him more in a WR role, he would fit very nicely into the Givens role.

    some good measurables:

Dorin had the best time of all tight ends in the 40 yard dash (4.40), in the 225 pound bench press (24 reps), 1st by far in the vertical jump (43"), second in the broad jump (10'5"), and 3rd in the 3-Cone Drill (9.6 seconds) and the 20-Yard Shuttle (30 seconds).

Dorin Dickerson | Pittsburgh, TE : 2010 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

    swiss army knife versatility:

He was used in college by the Panthers at tight end, wide receiver, fullback and even played a little linebacker. Most scouts see him lining up as the H-Back, in the fullback or tight end position, causing matchup problems at every spot.

TE Dorin Dickerson Ups His Draft Stock - Baltimore Beat Down

was a draft day slider based upon some glowing reports at the combine:

"Regardless of whether he plays WR or TE in the NFL, Dickerson’s has positioned himself as a 2nd-3rd round pick after being labeled as a 4th-5th rounder coming into the combine."

    NFL Combine: Risers and Fallers

So the bottom line would seem to be that he is a very versatile and explosive athlete, perhaps without a natural position, and perhaps a guy who has performed a little better in a T-shirt than in pads on game day.

The athleticism says potential special teams monster, though, if taught to block and tackle (big if, I know).

I like the size/speed ratio, as well as I liked the one hand catch. The key is, learning the playbook. Taylor Price- 1 year, Ochostinko- 5 months, Tiquan Underwood- 8 days ?

Pretty good commentary by Brady regarding Underwood today.

Lets see if this kid can learn the entire offense in 48 hrs.:D

Actually, as I remember it, Underwood was signed after the 3rd preseason game and cut when the roster was reduced to 53, so he was only here for about a week or so in the preseason.

Exciting! I really liked Dickerson at Pitt. He made some excellent catches, and in a hybrid role similar to Hernandez could be a matchup nightmare. Whether or not he can pick up the offense is, of course, the big question. Too bad they're not all as smart as I am. :snob:

I also liked Dickerson before the draft. He's worth a look-see.

He seems to have all the the tools ie... things you can't teach Size and Speed. Bu why can't he stick on a Team? I think Dorin Dickerson is one of those guys who looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane.

Don't forget Maneri was picked up by the Pats from Houston last year. Wished we'd kept him..
