Pats cut 6

The Patriots announced the release of the following six players:

CB Hank Poteat
ILB Freddie Roach
WR Rich Musinski
WR Keron Henry
OL Brian Barthelmes
OL Nick Steitz

Bill Belichick said the moves help the team comply with the 75-player roster limit that all teams must be at by 4 p.m. ET today.

Poteat and Roach gone - that hurts our representation on the "High Times All Star Team".
Oh well.

Oh well.

Poteat getting cut on the first cutdown is an annual tradition.

Of course, it's also a tradition that he returns at some point in the season.

Sullivan's still here.

We'll be well represented.

Can singer James Blunt play WR?

LOL!
So, does this mean we're at 75?
I thought we needed to make like 10 cuts today?
Are more coming later?

Well, I was pretty close:

My predictions made 8/21:

...

Assuming the Pats have to make 14 cuts from 89 to 75:

NFLE WR Zuriel Smith, RB Earl Charles, and S Ray Ventrone placed on Reserve/NFLE injury list. (-3)

LS Jon Condo released (-1)

QB Todd Mortensen released (-1)

WR Erik Davis released (-1)

OL Brian Barthelmes released (-1)

OL Nick Steitz released (-1)

WR Keron Henry released (-1)

TE Chris Luzar released (-1)

DL Eddie Freeman released (-1)

OL Randy Hand released (-1)

CB Antwain Spann released (-1)

CB Vernell Brown released (-1)

X Rich Musinski released

X Freddie Roach released

X Hank Poteat released

X Martin Gramatica released

X Brandon Gorin traded

I thought veterans like Hank or Martin would be cut, but I didn't actually predict them. :(

I'm sure the guys that I predicted to get cut but didn't will (greyed out) get the axe Saturday.

Sucks to see him cut, but hopefully we can break that tradition this year. Because if he comes back that means we have guys dropping like flies in the secondary....AGAIN.

My sleeper is gone too, that sucks. I was hoping Roach would step up.

Roach might clear waivers and go to p.s.

It's not beyond BB to cut a guy he likes but can't justify being a 53 early, pretending that he has no interest in him only to pick him up later for the PS

The practice squad can't be established until noon on Sunday, so we'll have to see if he gets that far.

Bill on cuts

Bill Belichick touched on the team's roster cuts today.

On CB Hank Poteat: "He's a great kid, a good player to coach. He worked hard. He made some big plays for us, played in some big games. I have no issues at all with Hank. He worked hard in the offseason program. We just felt like there were some players ahead of him and that's why we did that. I have total respect for Hank, his work ethic, his toughness, his competitiveness. It was a tough one this morning."

On ILB Freddie Roach and if his release was due to injury: "No. I think we have players ahead of him at his position. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to participate in everything for some of the last couple of weeks, practices and games. Again, I don't look at it as a case of him falling behind as other people getting more of an opportunity to move ahead, which a lot of them have done."

We'll have more in a bit.

Week 11 of the 2006 Season: "...starting and making his return at cornerback on the left side for New England is Hank Poteat..."

God Bless ya Hank. We'll see you again soon.

Poteat knows the drill by now...

BB: "Hank, you're cut."

Hank: "Ok, coach. Just leave my stuff in my locker like the last 6 times?"

BB: "Yup."

Hank: "Cool. See you in a couple of weeks."

What?!?!?!?!?!?!?

WR Rich Musinski AND WR Keron Henry?!?!?!?!?

Now we're really screwed at wideout!

Where the he!! is Tony Gaiter when you need him?

Also, whatever happened to Tony Simmons?

Is he out of football?

God I hope not. That would mean we would have a hell of alot of injured corners.

LONG LIVE BEISEL!! :rocker:

Since Roach is hurt and unable to play, this is understandable. I would say he still makes the PS.
