During a chat with one of ESPN's scouts this question was asked by somebody, nothing to get overly excited about but is kind of intresting...

We could only wait and see what happens...

It sounded to me on the conf call he had with the press prior to the game last week it sounded like he wanted to be Patriot. He definitely wants out of Oakland.

    #85 Jersey
You never know, a chance to play for a winning team, he might take less money to come play here. Heck, I think a lot of players want out of Oakland!

When you hear him talk you could tell he really wants to be on a successful team that has alot of structure. He's going to find a way out of Oakland one way or another IMO hopefully BB and Pioli can get him in a Pats uni next season.

That might be true but the agent doesnt have the final say the player does.

Unless BB has had a "come-to-jesus" about his secondary, I just don't see it happening, unless Asomugha took a decent pay cut to play with TfB & Co. It would make the d look a hell of a lot better real quick:
Asomugha, Ellis, Merriweather, Sanders?, Vrabel, Bru/Jr?, MAYO, AT, Seymour, Wilfork, Warren. Given, Vrabel is on the decline, and clearly the same for Bru/Jr. Might be able to throw Seymour on the over the hill crowd, but I think he's been playing pretty well in hindsight. In any case, that would be one hell of a defense. Maybe upgrade at S and let the big boys pin their ears back every now and then and try to kill whoever is dropping back...not to mention the improvement of Wilhite (ok, after Deltha O'No, anyone would be an upgrade), and promising play of that other smurf who broke his one good arm...(forgive me, Mr. Daniels is aiding a lapse in memory) If that did happen, I think we would see the more creative NE defense of 03-04 years than the more plain vanilla Cover type we've been watching of late.

Asomugha plays for the Oakland Raiders. He is probably (about 99.99999999999999999999999%) going to get franchised. After the Jordan and Moss relocations, do people really think Davis would trade the guy to New England?

Can't he refuse to sign the franchise tender like some suggest Cassel may do if we try the tag-n-trade ploy? If so, wouldn't that mean he has the option to meet/sign with another team?

Scott and Bill wasn't the ones who got Randy to NE, it was Tom. And Randy will be the one to convince NA that a pay cut is worth playing for real football team where everyone has a winning attitude, where you win more often than lose and where football is fun again. Actually I think NA is already been convinced of that.

The two sides will fight over a number but if both sides want it will happen.

NA made around $9 million this year slightly less than Randy did his last year in Oakland. Randy is making $6 million now. If we use that as a model, it works out okay as long as we don't do something stupid like pay $12 million so we can have a back QB with experience by franchising Cassel.

I'd love it if he would but, from what I've heard, Davis is so pissed about all things Patriots that the odds against such a thing happening are long, indeed.

Great post, Randy was Nhamdi's mentor while he was in Oakland, hopefully Randy could convince him to take a lil less cash in hopes to contend for a title and play for the Patriots.

I am about as big of Cassel fan/homer as they come, but he ain't worth franchise tag money to us or anybody else for that matter.

He is a good QB but he doesn't command Brady/Peyton money. More like Pennington/Romo money. And if all he is doing is holding Tom's clip board, we let Kevin do that and trust BB does as good of a job developing his next back up as he did with the last two.

Totallly different situation. With Cassel it is him being traded not kept on the roster, and therfore he has all the leverage by not havong to agree to a deal with the trading team. Cassel either gets $15 mil for one year if he stays with the Pats, or if the Pats let him go, he gets to sgin with anyone he wants. Win-win.

When a player is franchised to play, he has no leverage. All he can do is not play and therefore not get paid for an entire year. So he either plays for the Raiders or doesn't get paid. Lose-lose.

Pairing with Condon is basically saying I do not want to play for the patriots. The last player Condon tried to sign on the patriots was Watson. It became the longest hold out for a rookie and 17 days into TC Watson fired him and signed with the Pats the next day.

Condon also negotiated Payaton Manning's current contract. Which forced the Colts not to be able to sign any significant FAs for the next few years.

He does his job well, just at the expense of the team and the NFL.

I'm still up in the air on Cassel. While it would be nice to get something for him, I don't think it would be worth the risk of not being able to move him (although I highly doubt that would happen), or not being able to move him quickly enough. In both cases I remain cautiously optimistic.

How do you spell cha ching? The guy is going to bank...

It is interesting, all the while we have been thinking, improve the pass rush to help the secondary. Maybe improving the secondary would improve the pass rush.

In the peak period the Pats had a very good secondary, Law, Harrison, Wilson (when he could play), Tyrone Poole, Samuel, etc.

Not to mention Hank Poteat, Randall Gay, etc.

He will be franchised. He will not sign the tender. He will have his agent look around the league for a deal that's agreeable to him, so that he can get a longer term contract and not have to ride the pine for another year. Once he finds it, he'll go back to the Patriots with the deal, and the Patriots will work out the compensation with the team in question if it hasn't already been done.

Of course, this is assuming that he doesn't do something to hurt his value in the time between now and the free agency period.

Tell me why any team would pay him the same thing Brady makes PLUS give up picks?

He is a decent QB. But he ain't Tom Brady/Peyton Manning. And we know he can get the ball into Wes and Randy's hands. Would he be as good with the Lion's receivers.

Or maybe he its way of saying I am not willing to take $3 million like Randy did. Condon plays the a-hole demanding $11 million. Once he feels he had the Patriots best offer he fires Condon and signs.

    #24 Jersey
If a team is willing to pay him $8M or so a year he would be worth a trade, we aren't talking about two #1s or anything. Or they could pay a #1 pick millions. More risk.

    Re: Pats interested in Asomugha?

1.) There is an exclusive tag that the Raiders can use.
2.) Randy Moss is not making $6 million. His cap number is $6 million. He received a $12 million signing bonus. His 3-year deal averages $9 million.
