What year did the Patriots average 29.5 points, their highest to date?

Take a guess, without research.

Either '76 or '78. How about '78?

I already knew the answer, so I won't give it away, but here's a hint:

OK, I just researched it... what a revelation!

The first four AFL-NFL meetings began in 1966. Renamed the Super Bowl in '68, these 4 pre-merger games were dominated by the NFL 4-0 or 3-1, 2-2, other.

1963? (based on the hint.)

Not that year. More hints?

They acquired a new QB that year. The outgoing QB passed for 14 TDs, the new QB passed for 13.

Two receivers caught 45 balls each, both averaging over 17 yds a catch.

One of the receivers had two of the top 5 scoring seasons in pro football history, returned punts and kickoffs, played Defensive back and completed one pass for a touchdown.

Also first 4 AFL-NFL matchups (retroactively called Super Bowls starting with III).

How many of 4 did NFL win?

Was it 1979 or 1980. They had some great receivers(Stanley and Jackson) and a great OL but were very inconsistent and too badly coached to reach the play-offs.

Would that the be the 1996 team or does it go back further to when they got routed by the Bears in 1985?

How many of the 4 meetings between AFL and NFL did NFL win? (These were all renamed Super Bowl in '68, merger was final in '70.)

allrit, i dont know...u got me...

but i do know wut team is gonna hold the record at the end of THIS season...the 07 pats

2, Jets and Chiefs?

Absotutely. Kind of bashes the common misconception that the AFL was a far inferior league of castoffs eh?

Yeah, I'm an old AFL fan, they had an exciting brand of ball and were competitive very quickly, especially offensively.

I would say to be that competitive in 6-10 years they were the greatest rival league ever. Every single team was absorbed.

The ABA had Julius Erving and Moses Malone, among others, but the AFL still lives, really. Put the clock on the scoreboard instead of the refs pocket and the 2 point conversion.:rocker:

2 patriots made the all time AFL team displayed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton (I know, I called the curator LOL!!).

One of them was a rookie the year the pats averaged the highest point total.

1961..........
