OT - How are superbowl stadiums picked?

Denver, Miami. New Orleans. San Diegp, Las Vegas. All are good choices for the big game.

You can forget Las Vegas, the NFL hates Las Vegas, we’re not even allowed to call it the Super Bowl, we have to call it the Big Game. We’re not allowed to have parties that charge or allowed to show the game on screen larger than 52 inches, unless the sports book already has a larger screen in use during the season. The NFL bans Las Vegas from nationally advertising during the Super Bowl, but we get around that by buying local time in each market.

I wonder why that is?

Everyone has to call it the "big game" if they are using the game in connection with the promotion of anything at all. The NFL very vigorously protects the "Super Bowl" trademark and gives very few people permission to use it.

It's not a Las Vegas thing.

I think the NFL understands pretty well that nothing is a bigger threat to it's current exalted status than a real sports gambling scandal or even the perception of game fixing. It is one of the few things that could kills the golden-egg laying goose in a hurry. I think that's the reason Las Vegas is unlikely.
