It'll only go to SCOTUS if SCOTUS wants it to. All the NFL can do (or Brady, if he loses) is ask. SCOTUS does not have to listen.
I know SCOTUS only takes cases they want, but IMHO there is indeed an important legal concept at hand; namely, the limits of power of an arbitrator. The whole concept of arbitration implies a neutral, unbiased judge.
 
This case will go all the way to the Supreme Court. This is why the NFL hired the fancy lawyer.
The case is no longer about Deflategate, it is about Goodell retaining absolute power to discipline
players.
I'm not sure it will go to SCOTUS but you're right about it no longer being about deflategate.
