There has been alot of sanctimony coming out of Buffalo over the alleged "dirty" hit on the inept Losman's knee. "He's dirty" the Buffalo Offensive Linemen have been whining, and a choir of Buffalo moralists have demanded severe punishment.

Their hypocrisy would be laughable if it weren't so outrageous.

The starting right guard for Buffalo is the most famous cheap shot artist in college football history. His name is Brad Butler. He delivered that blow to Mathias Kiwanuka's knee in 2005, while playing for Virginia. The video has since been removed from youtube, though I'm sure many of you have seen it already.

Vince Wilfork was lined up against Butler on this very play. Butler, along with Melvin Fowler, are the players who tackled Wilfork from behind after he beat them on the play, forcing him to fall toward Losman.

When Buffalo drafted Butler in 2006, the personnel department, fully aware of his penchant for dirty blows, was giddy about Butler's "grit" and "nasty attitude".

So Buffalo moralists: Don't bother pretending to condemn "dirty hits" against the innocent Wilfork, or others. Your organization sold its soul to the devil by eagerly drafting the arch-cheapshot artist himself. This is an example of the rife hypocrisy at work in the NFL, the same hypocrisy that motivated the "videogate" witchhunt.

I must have watched that hit 50 times. I actually kept getting madder, Hulk-style.

You should post that on a Bills board as well.

Wow! I do remember that hit and video but didn't remember the players name. Thanks for the info pony, it certainly does put a different spin to the incident!

    Brute Butler

Brad Butler executed the worst single cheapshot i have ever seen in football.
I made a stink of it on this board at the time ... and felt
humiliated when the brute got drafted because of it.

I knew what position he plays and what team he plays for ... but somehow
it never occurred to me to add 2 plus 2.

Thanx for adding it up, PonyX!
Butler and Kevin Mawae - rogue athletes both -
are the only players i yearn to see fall on the field.
What comes around ... is simple justice.

(Oh, and a thunderous sideline collision for RatMan too, if y' don't mind, sir!)

You guys couldn't be any more wrong about Butler.

He made a single mistake, out of frustration, and he's paid a huge price for it. Up until then, and ever since, he's been an outstanding student athlete and professional. The guy had never done anything dirty prior to that, or after. Ask anyone who faced him regularly in ACC football during his college career and this is the answer you'll get.

To label him a cheap shot "artist" and infer that this was a pattern for him is, well, being a cheap shot artist yourself.

He also took out JP Losman's knee by pushing Vince Wilfork into him. That makes at least two incidents...

To detest a cheap shot ... and the person who takes it ... makes one a
    "cheap shot artist yourself".
    I see.

Deep down, Brute Butler is really a good boy.
    His mother swears it!

This dude wasn't 12 years old. He's a guy in his early 20s who paused to consider his actions before going out of his way to attempt to injure someone else.

That's how he got his reputation. Well earned.

    #75 Jersey

To be honest, I don't know anything about Butler, and I dont' really follow BC football, so I wasn't aware of the hit...but, boy, that was a cheap shot with a capital cheap and a capital shot. Maybe that was a single incident, but it was no mistake, he knew, or should have known, what he awas doing and that it could have ended a career. Whether it is a pattern, I don't know, but if you don't want to be known as a cheap shot artist, well, don't give cheap shots.
