I guess I finally get to find put how to use the "ignore" option. I'm steering clear of this one
Wow! Talk about [hyper-]sensitivity. Even when there is absolutely nothing in what I said to be sensitive about. Your choice. I am not sensitive about it. :)

I can't ever remember any person (let alone athlete) being involved in more non-story stories than Brady this year.

Agree completely, the media is literally creating controversy after controversy out of nothing, and it is all being done to try and trash Brady in the hope of driving ratings. The list of Boston sports media I pay attention to is down to about 3-5, and nationally it's almost non existent. Cord cutting is in my immediate future and I no longer care whether I keep the NFLN or not. ESPN is going for good as are Fox, MSNBC, etc etc. I will pay for the NHL channel and watch the Patriots until I get sick and tired of the National Marketing League for good.

F.ck em all.

Virtually anything and everything associated with the Patriots is a potential controversy. I'm so far past even giving a s### that none of it matters to me anymore. If ESPN takes this and runs another 30/30 on it, who cares? Everyone who hates the Patriots will just nod their heads and, hopefully, everyone who likes them will yawn. No one anywhere is going to have their opinion changed by anything at this point. Moving on...

If I were the patriots and i invest led hundreds of millions into my player I will go through any legal route to get every dollar from my investment. All costs and procedures would be accounted for anyway so there is nothing wrong with this. It's the same the other way around too when Brady buys krafts macaroni and cheese. He is buying the product. You have a trolling agenda if you looking for nefarious activity in this.
Bob Kraft doesn't have any affiliation with macaroni and cheese. But I get your point. Now if TB buys any cardboard boxes.... :p

**** Volin and the Globe.. thats all..

As a person involved in the financial services industry, I actually believe that TB has to tread very carefully here. Even if all is above board, because the checks and balance system may not be totally transparent provides some cause for concern with respect to the salary cap.

If Peyton Manning took less money from the Broncos than what is his perceived value on the market but the Broncos paid good money to the particular Papa John's franchise he owned for "catering services", there would be more than a few people here with at least one eyebrow raised.

Well, eating lots of chain pizza is great for physical performance.

I wonder how the Red Sox Globe feels about Seahawks players owning significant shares of Microsoft. Brady's $200/hr personal trainer though.

I don't think that is a fair comparison. Alex/Tom's company is not publicly traded as one of the largest companies in the world . It is an upstart firm that was pretty much unknown until the media got a hold of Alex Guerrero's sordid past.

Why isn't it a fair comparison? Microsoft has a multi-million dollar contract with the NFL that will generate millions in revenues to Microsoft and the players (investors) stand to gain profits on their investments. Brady is an investor in a small company that actually provides a non-monetary (direct) benefit to the players that use the services. Article is a smear piece by extolling Guerrero's poor past and tying Brady to it under the guise of a football related (salary cap) story.

I can't wait to hear about this in today's game.

This? Again?

I know I might sound ridiculous, but it's more obvious than ever that Brady has done something to pee off the "elites," and I ain't talking hasbeens or former players, I'm talking about some very powerful people.

Deflategate
Now Trump
Now his rehab facility

What's next, he not the father of Gisele's kids?

Like Bill Cosby, these people knew he liked to drug and take advantage of young girls, they just turned their heads and zipped their lips, while letting him do his thing. They've been quiet for years, now they come out, after using Cosby to try to get ahead, and talk about being raped. Why now?

Cosby obviously did something to get back in their good graces because he is suing the women and the tide is changing.

Onto Brady

These people already knew about Brady's business relationship with Kraft. I only found out montjs ago because I was snooping through his emails. The media already knew before that and they know that he and Trump are BFFs, they probably knew Brady liked flatter balls (whether he does or not, it's arguable), why come out with it now? Why are they so desperate to crucify Brady over some little trivial BS?

Why?

Who exactly did he piss off and why?

I think there are two separate sets of issues here.

One is Tom Brady getting involved in a business venture with a guy who has a history of trouble with creditors and the FTC. Guerrero is apparently clear of those troubles now. So, this is a personal and professional judgment by Brady that none of us really have the data to question on the facts. But, in my experience in the business world, "tigers don't change their stripes," so, if I were Brady's friend or advisor I'd probably have advised him not to do this. But, as I said, Guerrero is now in the clear and Brady has more data than I have...hopefully.

Two is the creation of a revenue stream related to team play or preparation for team play by an NFL team that financially benefits one of its players, beyond his salary. I'm virtually certain that there would be nothing, in the view of the NFLPA, in the CBA that would specifically prohibit this, as I assume Brady had this checked out by his lawyers and no doubt was smart enough to get an opinion in advance in writing from the NFLPA that this was kosher. However, there are two risks here.

The first is the possible appearance of impropriety. An objective or unfriendly observer might ask whether players are in any way informally pressured to avail themselves of these services to the financial benefit of one of their teammates. I think it would be useful to step back and imagine how we would be reacting if Peyton Manning had set up a business venture related to their play on the field that put cash in his pocket directly from his teammates.

The second is that we should be very careful how we read the quotes about and from the NFL in the article:

The article quotes the NFL as saying “We are aware of the arrangement and have not determined that there is any violation of the CBA...’’ That is a different statement from "We have thoroughly reviewed the arrangement and we have determined that there is no violation of the CBA." It just says that they have not, based on their awareness, determined that there is a violation. The statement does not close the door on the subject. If you're willing to "trust" the NFL on that, well, I live in Manhattan and have a very nice bridge in lower Manhattan connecting the island to Brooklyn that I can sell you at a great price!

The article also says (probably referring to the above quote, but providing more information) that "The NFL says it is aware of the arrangement and has taken no action, despite questions from some specialists in sports law and economics about whether teams should pay for services by for-profit companies owned by their active players and whether the relationship provides value to Brady that should be counted against the club’s salary cap." There is a big difference between "taking no action" and approving the arrangement. The quote also suggests that lawyers and economists have gone to the NFL with concerns over this arrangement.

I doubt we've heard the end of this.

Come on. Microsoft is a publicly traded company with millions of shareholders. There is no comparison.

OK. If Paul Allen walked through the locker room selling shares or if he set up a special program for Seahawks' players whereby they could "voluntarily" invest in the company, then you would have a point.

As far as "appearance of impropriety" goes I don't think they should pay any attention to it because it doesn't matter what they do it will be construed as inappropriate regardless. The league and media are out to get them and that is more than obvious.

Brady is a cheating, having kids-out of wedlock slime who associates himself with despicable characters who involve themselves in shady business dealings and a man who thinks the current political establishment are idiots and should be fired.

Thats the narrative that the media wants to spin.

Its a good thing his emails didn't have any highly-classified information from the State and Defense Department.

I give Tom a pass on deflategate, but Trump and Alex Guerrero are things that he voluntarily immersed his otherwise perfect persona in to.
The deliberate placement of the "Make America Great Again Cap" at the forefront of his locker (for all cameras to see) kickstarted this whole issue. It could have been avoided.
If Tom, knew of Guerrero's past, then he either should have kept him hidden (paid him handsomely for the intellectual/property rights) so no one could point fingers...or just not have anything to do with that kind of person. I do not truly feel Alex G is a terrible human being who is trying to kill cancer patients...I think he is a guy who found an avenue to make money and just got carried away. But Tom does not need those types of blemishes on his otherwise perfect dossier.

Lastly, if this were any other team or non-Patriot star who took less than half his market value to allow his team to stay under the cap while his team fed his private business...I'd be going berzerk about it.

Guess what monday's WEEI Brady appearance will be about tomorrow ?sigh.

OP: be nice if you could include in your title that it's from the Boston Red Sox Globe. And as to the assertion that it's a hit piece- that's quite obvious, online on a Saturday night and undoubtedly in print on gameday.
It's clear the Globe has a thing for the Pats, but, to be fair, Bob Hoehler is an equal opportunity hit man. He authored the famous "chicken and beer" piece on the Red Sox pitchers and the ****ty way the front office and ownership shanked Terry Francona in the back.

This is not new news. Almost the exact same article was written about in the past.

IMHO, this is something I wish the Pats were not involved with. It smacks of trouble for the Pats. Let the players pay themselves if interested in the services provided.

IMHO another example of Brady skating on the edge.

Imo another example of a holes making something out of nothing.
