NCAA investigating players that could interest us

UNC also.

Marvin Austin is in the crosshairs with this investigation. Lesson learned? If you are an amateur athlete going to have an agent wine/dine you on South Beach, don't post pictures on Facebook. Rumors bouncing around that Austin (6'3", 305lb, possible DE candidate) would lose eligibility for this year...which could drop him into late 1st/early 2nd. If the Pats can be convinced he isn't a complete idiot, that would be a bargain.

Edit: Didn't realize Austin was mentioned in the original link. Sorry.

So what does being declared ineligible mean? Could he enter the NFL as a UFA? Does he have to wait another year before he can play in the league?

Ineligible = ineligible to participate in collegiate football in 2010.

If I understand things correctly, no player can enter the NFL as a UDFA until and unless he has had an opportunity to be drafted and been passed over, so, yes, if one of these players is declared ineligible, he would not be able to join the NFL until 2011.
