I would not doubt if the New Orleans Saints sign Drew Brees to a contract extension before the start of unrestricted free agency and then franchise Colston.
:confused2:
Colston isn't in his first 3 years
Using the rookie seasons as if they should be weighted evenly is terrible because of the other receivers involved on each side and because of the different amount of time it takes rookie WRs to adjust to the NFL
Wallace's last two seasons are arguably better than any two seasons Colston's ever had
Numbers aren't the sole determinant of ranking...
Toss in Wallace being 3 years younger and not having had microfracture surgery on both knees, and there's plenty to debate.
LOL . When did Mike Wallace reach 98 catches, or 11 Td's in a season ? Hell, when did Wallace even reach 80 catches ?

As I said, cherry picking stats.
And we already have Welker and Gronk. We're not bringing in a wide receiver so he can catch 100 balls.
you're pretty hung up on cherry picking. Stats are the measure of success; you may not like the fact Colston has better stats but deal with it. If cherry picking stats which are the measure of what NFL uses as the bar bothers you, Why don't we wipe away 50Td's of Brady by cherry picking
So give up #1 pick to acquire RFA Wallace, give mega contract extension to Wallace to have him sit behind Welker and Gronk to catch 40 balls like Deion, since whoever comes in we are not bringing him in to catch 100 balls, since we have Welker and Gronk. Well that makes sense.
Wallace would require a big contract. And then we have Welker. Which then leaves very little $ to sign a couple of good defensive player, which we really need.
How many times has Colston averaged more than 16.5 YPC?
How many times has Colston reached 1250 yards receiving in a season?
And let's note that both players are averaging 8 TDs a season and Wallace is averaging more yards per season, despite having a rookie season where Holmes (79 catches) and Ward (95 catches) were well established receivers ahead of him being counted in this mix, while Colston's rookie season was spent with a 34 year Joe Horn (37 catches) as the next best WR on his team. Let's also note that Colston plays in a dome, and hasn't had to face the Ravens twice a year during his career.
cherry picking. No one cares for YPC. Malcolm Floyd and Johnny Knox were #1 and #2 in YPC this year. They both combined caught 80 balls and scored 7 td's.
You lost your dimishing credibility completely with this excuse.
Let's also note that Colston plays in a dome, and hasn't had to face the Ravens twice a year during his career
So, lets cherry pick away stats of every dome receiver since well you know they benefitted from the dome, maybe not the QB like Brees.. Since out goes stats for Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Megatron, Fitzgerald, Moss, Largent....let's throw out Rice too since he played in sunny Cali and the NFC west was garbage those years and he never played Bears, Giants, Cowboys 2x a year
In that case let's also throw out Brady and Moss stats all together since AFC East has been garbage for last decade with vaunted defenses of Bills, Dolphins, Jets. Should not count since they did not play in Ravens, Steelers twice a year.
Amaaaaaaazing logic
not sure if srs. They dont have a choice if they can't match the offer sheet. You do understand that he's a RFA, we're not trading for him.
1.) Of course it was cherry picking. It was cherry picking done specifically in response to your obvious cherry picking.
2.) You took the rookie season of Wallace to slant your argument, where he was behind Holmes and Ward, and you think I'm the one with a credibility problem? Good comedy.
- Brady's Deep Ball Accuracy has faded over the past couple of years, even some of his medium stuff has become slightly inaccurate and with less power on it, the welker dropped pass in the superbowl could have been a better pass to a wide open player, this will only get worse as brady ages and his elbow tendonitis gets worse.
Would it be having to pay Wallace and lose the 31st pick or just pay Colston with no compensation? If that is the case, it's a no brainer with Colston.
You are giving up pick value to one of your biggest rivals and money to the player which goes against your cap.
Wallace is a great player who im sure could help the patriots but here are some things to consider.

- Gronkowski and Hernandez are going to need to be paid coming up pretty quick here, they are both top 15 receivers in this league will who both be slated to earn less than 1 million dollars each in 2012, as two of the best receivers in the league, they may demand more, and when their current contracts are up, will require huge dollars to sign, going forward, these 2 players are going to the center of our offense, and with Welker expected to be held onto thats alot of money on your skill positions.
- With Draft picks and Patriots allure, the patriots should be able to find someone, talents like Carter, Anderson and Waters were drawn to NE because they wanted to win in their old age, NE is a draw for players like this, and Ochocinco might have been one of them if he worked out, you can get good players for relatively cheap, you arent going to get megatron in here, but in Gronk and Hernandez.
- On Offense, the part with the most room for improvement is the run game, if the patriots can learn to block and run better, it will open up even more space for the passing game. brady can pretty reliably deliver a good ball to an open guy especially if the defense is playing the run, get Ridley and Vereen in there and find players who can block for them.
