    Re: Maybe BB isn't leaving.

Which uneducated fan or media member ever suggested that he was leaving?

If you learn from what you see growing up, he had a role model in his father who stayed at the Naval Academy for 30+ years despite multiple opportunities to go elsewhere. As was written in Halberstam's book, The Education of a Coach (wish I could find the quote) he writes that BB said that the grass isn't always greener. That one comment leads me to conclude that BB is of the mind that if you find the right situation, ( good ownership, good front office, success on the field) there's no reason to be searching out the next opportunity because it may not be the way it seems.
Put another way, from what we know as fans, who would you rather work for, Bob Kraft or Jerry Jones or Daniel Snyder?

    Re: Maybe BB isn't leaving.

I think ego plays alot into it as well. The great coaches have coached just one team for a long period of team with success. He wants to leave the game and be inducted into the hall of fame. We are switching to a zone blocking scheme this year, it was a great move to bring in big name wide receivers to keep defenses from stacking and confusing our lineman. They will have the plates full with the new scheme. It was nice that this year we actually had the free agents we wanted choose to play for us.

Normally when someone speaks like that
    he's headed out the door.

    Not this time, though.

    Thanx for my new sig.

    OLD sig:
"... we’re not building for just the 2007 season, we’re building for ’08, ’09, ’10, ’11, ’12, so this is long-term. .... We take a long-range look. Bill and I want to be there for a while, we want to have success. It’s not just about building and making a quick run at it, we want to try to sustain success.”

    Re: Maybe BB isn't leaving.

There was never any good reason to think he was leaving in the first place. The only rhyme or reason for such was to increase the numbers of hits profootballtalk.com received. Nothing more.

Bill has the football world at his fingertips right now - he's not stupid. When Brady retires maybe there's a decision point then.

    Re: Maybe BB isn't leaving.

I'd like to think BB saying that would put the "BB's leaving" idea to bed. But I doubt it -:) He pretty much said what I thought all along. Like, why would he leave?

If people read what he said more than what is written about him, he always says things like this not always so overtly but its there I have posted things before that have suggested the same as stated here.

most recently I posted this which was at the end of a reiss article a week ago.

"[But] the stories change every day and you have to adjust and adapt to new situations. That's what keeps it fresh. You try to take advantage of your experiences, and if you feel like you have a fairly solid program, you follow it through."

    Re: Maybe BB isn't leaving.

Jeez. He is saying as blatantly as possible "I want to be here."

The only other thing he can say is "I have signed a long-term contract extension," which is the only thing that counts.

He can not help that today is not tomorrow. At the same time, there is no signature on a contract. We know what we know, we do not know what we do not know. Just like a player, we do not own BB.

We know where he wants to be, I don't think that's in doubt. I also know that without the contract sig, it's all speculation whether positive or negative.

Hold on - you say there is no sig on a contract, point of order. There very well may be a sig on a contract, we just don't know is all.

Would not surprise me one bit if indeed a long term contract has already been safely signed away. One of the terms probably is that none of the parties talk about it.

    "Maybe" BB isn't leaving???? "Maybe?"

Dude, he is sooooo NOT LEAVING. Why would he? And, just to ad(d) to the nauseum, WHY WOULD HE DEAL PICKS INTO FUTURE YEARS IF HE IS PLANNING ON LEAVING AFTER THIS ONE?????

Guy's not going anywhere. For awhile.

    Re: Maybe BB isn't leaving.

Point of order noted - to the extent that any sort of mechanism demands that contract details be released (I mean, that's why we know these things about players, right?) we have no contract details.

We know that his contract was noted as running out, which means the terms of the last deal were known. Are you thinking of some specific deadline by which the contract gets reported? I don't know how it works, but I know coach's deals, like player's, end up available to the media.

well BB has always said he prefers a situation that he's comfortable with and not "starting over". He doesn't need that "new" feeling like a lot of coaches do in which they want to see if they can build a great team everywhere they go. He's got the coaching staff he wants, a great team, a great fanbase, the media knows what they are getting with BB, he does radio interviews once a week and has a good time, a great owner, a great office staff, and TOM BRADY! Unless he's retiring, i don't see him leaving.....and i am very happy about that.

Kraft has probably already sent him a memo that reads something like "got a check ready for you, just let me know the amount to fill in"

This thread pops up about every 14 days, bottom line is that no one shows their cards either bb or the Krafts, but there is every reason to believe that this is his last stop.. and even after he retires he will be well taken care of by the Kraft family.. he has left his imprint here and that will continue for a long time.

    Re: Maybe BB isn't leaving.

I know players contracts are reported and the media finds out certain details. I think the NFLPA union has something to do with how and what is reported.

I am not so sure that there is any mechanism or requirement that a coaches deal gets reported.

I speculate that BB does not want anyone to know for a variety of reasons - professionally and personally. I also feel deep down that he has indeed come to some sort of a new deal or extension. The Krafts are way to quiet for the news to be anything other than 100% positive.

So, taking what Pioli has said, the way the stockpiled draft choices, the way they are treating players deals and options and negotiations, what BB just said, what the Krafts are not saying.....mix it all together and it says to me - he is here for the long term for sure.

How does the saying go, if it walks, talks and acts like a duck..it's a duck??
