It's easy, and only takes a few moments.IMO this could be critical.... like facing schobel and taylor..light couldve have issues .Hopefully he can do better than he did agaisnt schobel after seeing abraham manhandle jake long
The question is how come every team seems to have one awesome speed pass rusher and the Pats don't?
Vollmer looked good against Schobel in limited action. I wonder about moving Light over to RT and matching up Vollmer vs Abraham. His reach seemed to give Schobel issues when trying to gain leverage coming around the outside.
While Vollmer may have higher ceiling than Matt Light, Light is seasoned veteran whose been around long. As much as people trash him on this board, he is not a bad LT. Would you really want to start a rookie against one of the best pass rusher in the league? This board will call for BB's head if that happens.
Keep in mind Abe stays in a rotation to keep him at maximum effectiveness.
He will probably only be in the field between 60 and 70% of downs while the Falcons are on Defense. Unless you guys go up big early, leaving more passing downs.
On 2nd or 3rd and short (running downs) you will probably see Chauncey Davis or Jamaal Anderson take his place, as they are known more for being the run support DE's. Biermann and Sidbury (rookie) seem more suited for the pass rush. Frankly, I think Abraham can be a beast vs the run too, but he is better utilized on passing downs while fresh.
This coaching staff is very particular about how and when they use Abe. IMO, dude just goes full tilt, and you have to pull him off the field to keep him from trying to do what he does when he is rested while he is winded, and compensating by putting his body in abnormal positions, leading to pulled muscles. If you dont pull him, he will play so hard he hurts himself. Cant say enough good things about the guy. I would say more but I dont want to jinx Abe's health.
Dont know much about Matt Light. What are his weaknesses?
BTW, Abraham seems to be able to go inside, through, or around Tackles. I have seen him put some of the best moves I have seen (which probably aint saying much) doing all 3. Week 1 he power rushed Jake Long and put him on his ass to get a sack of Pennington in about 2.5 seconds. The funniest part about it was Long actually managed to get called for holding on the play too. Abe simply power rushed the #1 pick right into his chest.
Double team him. Pay special attention to Babineaux too because he is capable of blowing things up inside. Hell, when Jamaal Anderson is on the field, you could probably leave Jam98 completely unblocked. He will get in Brady's face then start doing pirouettes to try to scare Brady rather than take him down. We call him SloJam. He can be seen ALMOST making a play at least twice a game.
Its a little secret that we are thinking the same thing. When you watch film on both of these teams, it seems they both have run less screens than any other team in the NFL. We are thinking the Falcons will try a few this week since Belichick likes to go on fil...uh....nevermind.Abraham is certainly meddlesome. He moves around the line too.
The combo of Lofton and Peterson (LB's) are pretty good too. Could be tough on our run game and short passing in the middle. Maybe we will find a good enough matchup to run more screens this week.

Run screens to the other side away from Peterson. I'm not impressed by the platoon of Stephen Nicholas and Coy Wire so far this year. But that could just be because i'm comparing them to Peterson and Lofton...and those guys have been very good. Nicholas and Wire would probably look par for the course beside Brooking. One blocker in front on the screen will be more than enough to blast Nicholas out of the way.
I'm not trashing Light but rather asking the question if it has some merit since Light does struggle against that type of DE. Mankins, Koppen, Light and others have started as rookies. I'm merely suggesting Vollmer might be a better physical matchup against speed DEs.
