Not sure if this comment will go over well with Mr. Kraft. Guess it depends on his sense of humor....Mankins says: "Well, everyone knows I apologized to Mr. Kraft. He told everyone."

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

Seems like a pretty innocuous statement to me... there's no outright disrespect there... kindof just acknowledging the little games the players, owners and coaches have to play as they muddle through "the business" of football

I've got to say that while we I thought the team was adequate without Mankins, the OL took it to the next level with him there

Overall seems to me if he can joke about his holdout, that bodes well for the Pats to be a serious contender

I wondered when we'd here something about his situation. Sounds like we have a shot at resigning him afterall. Now its just a matter of how much.

I don't blame him really. I'd expect personal conservations to remain private.

Especially considering how the whole team operates in this sort of 'in-house' dogma. Kraft forcing him to apologize in public was unnecessary and stupid.

I thought they came out and said that apology thing never happened?

It makes the draft a lot easier if we don't have to pick 2 OG's.

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

not re-signing him would be one of the biggest fails in the BB era IMO if he wants 8 million then pay him cause they will not find a better G in the draft or FA he is the best in the AFC and maybe the NFL

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

Kraft denied the demand of a public apology, only that the apology did take place in a private conversation and he would have liked Mankins to make it public. I think that about sums it up

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

Well, I hope I don't seem curmudgeonly, but...isn't he part of the three-man interior line combination that's been at the core of the line breakdowns in three consecutive playoff games?

I would want to be more assured that the problem, whether it be scheme, or Koppen's lack of size, or Connolly or whatever is not anything to do with Mankins as well. Otherwise we might as well draft someone cheaper and hope it works out better. I agree he was beastly during the regular season, but three times in a row in the playoffs is more than a trend.

So would I, except it was Logan who first chose to make his conversations with the team public when he first claimed he had been lied to.

Bob the father is way too classy for that. I think Jonathan screwed up on this one and will learn from it (hopefully).

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

The way I'd look at it is this:

If Bob told anyone that Logan apologized, it was because people were asking. If people were asking about Logan it is because the people want the guy to stay. It seems to me that what Logan is expressing here is maybe a bit of embarrassment that his team is so interested in his situation. Anyone that has as much impact on the team as Logan had this year is going to be someone people look to for leadership and someone that they care about. I'm sure Bob didn't tell "everyone" but I'm sure anyone he did tell caused the information to spread like wildfire since so many are concerned. I expect it is the overall level of concern over him that he is pointing out here.

Additionally I would think this was his plan all along. Show people the difference in the Oline when he is part of the team and when he is not. Get a reaction that bolsters his case. Get people in the media commenting on the need for Mankins in there. I expect he does prefer to stay but only if the right price is right.

Except in that last game. Not sure what happened there. I recall that Koppen was on the injury report...maybe whatever it was made him less effective?

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

Koppen is a bit undersized and getting up there in age.....not sure when the experience vs age factor diminishes his effectiveness.....isn't it about time to get a replacement in the pipeline and on the roster...Start him at G and slide him to C when Koppen's play starts to slip.....I think BB had one last year but he never made it thru the waiver wire to sign on Pats PS.....Need to sign one that makes roster this year, even if he's for depth and inactive most games, not a PS project.....

Signing Mankins should be Priority #1 ala Wilfork and Brady

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

Kraft has repeatedly been called a cheap owner not only by people across the league, by the media, but also by some of his players.

    You have to wonder why.

I don't think there's any truth to it at all.

There's a subtext to the slurs against him, and I think that's why public apologies are necessary.

Should he have demanded it? NO WAY. If the apology is fake, then who needs it.

But I also think Mankins should be man enough to apologize publicly. I don't think it speaks well of Mankins' character to not apologize publicly after demeaning him publicly.

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

I agree with this. I also think this is a tough one as Jonathan Kraft has proven to be an effective team executive and I think he runs quite a bit of the operations at this point. I also think he comes across as being an extremely loyal son. My take on Mankins comments were that they were not that big a deal to Bob Kraft (although certainly not appreciated) but were a very very big deal to his son.

My read on Mankins comments is that there will not be a penny of a hometown discount. Given that, I think he is probably going somewhere else - to my dismay.

    Re: Mankins' latest comment

yes interior line has been one of the down falls for the pats in the playoffs so why would you want to re-place one of the best G's in the NFL with a rookie that would still be makeing only about 2 or 3 million less then Mankins would make and still have Connolly at right or left G... they need to keep Mankins and up grade Connolly with someone like Mike Pouncey
