Who plays right and left guard?
To me this would be a worst case scenario, in 2010 the team had good stability on offense. If they lose 2 pro bowl starters from the offensive line then they lose an opportunity to continue the re-build of the defense.

mgteich I'm going to agree with you on this. BB philosphy (from what I can tell and some people refer to) its better to dump a player a year early then a year late. And I think Light might fall into this category.
You have it right and I'll add to it.. I see 2 out of the top 5 picks being used on OL, competing with Kaczur and Neal/Connelly and Mankins either being franchised or resigned.
Your offense line could look like this
LT - Vollmer
LG - Mankins
C - Koppen (Maybe a rookie Center)
RG - Neal/Connelly/ **Koppen???
RT - Kaczur / Rookie
What are the thoughts of sliding Koppen to RG if we draft a Center? Just a thought but he'd add depth to the position if we did this (long shot I know but an idea)
And with Crumpler and Gronk, they could definitely assist a Rookie RT if he had issues.
Hmmmm..... IDK. It just feels to me like we need more power, as well as elite technical competence, at both the RG spot and center. Koppen, Wendell and Ohrnberger all fall around 6'2"/295 and that just doesn't seem to be enough heft for RG anymore, and maybe not even for center. Connolly is 6'4"/313, which seems more like it size-wise for RG at least, but then there's the question of elite technical competence. Neal is a pretty beat up 34-year-old (35 in early October) and I think the odds are about 65:35 he retires.

I don't see many centers we would draft beating out Koppen. After all, consider that Collmer didn't start in his rookie year. I do want to draft a center to compete this year and in 2012.
Koppen is in the last year of his contract. I don't think that he is a better RG than a C. My BOOTOM LINE on the OC position is that we need to draft a center to compete with Koppen, But Koppen will be either the starting or backup center this year.

I take it you're thinking that Wendell, Ohrnberger and Connolly aren't suitable?

None of these are starting centers or reasonable competitors to be our starting center.
I don't think there is a Center to be drafted that is a sure fire fit at Center in this draft. The more and more I think about it, the more and more I think Koppen will be suitable for another year. Honestly, the wr's just couldn't get free and Brady held onto the ball longer than normal due to the defensive looks he got. If we score on our first possesions our Center isn't as much as an immediate question mark. Yes we need to start looking though.
As Off The Grid mentioned. Last year was the time to move up and grab a center. The other Pouncey. There just isn't one in this draft. And really, does anyone really stop Ngata in his tracks? Even Mangold got man handled by Wilfork in game 2. Sometimes when someone is that big you need to call the right offenses.
Moffit Wisconsin, the guy from TCU? Possible draftees. There are a couple of more in this draft which are candidates but by no means are they gonna come in and take Koppens job who has 100's of plays memorized without opening a play book.
We do also have Thomas Austin from the P/S. Played OC and LG as a junior at Clemson (2008) - 6'3"/315, 32.4" arms, 9.75 hand. Not especially athletic or speedy, but noted for consistent play, technique.
He played with a nasty disposition at Clemson. I like nasty!
The absolute nastiest center in this draft is Pugh of Auburn. But he is only6'1".
i would think that bringing light back wont be the most expensive thing to do. is he really going to break the bank elsewhere in free agency?
