Report: Patriots, Kaczur headed for split - AFC East Blog - ESPN

Mildly surprised if he goes as it'll leave us with Vollmer and Le Voir and some of the first/second year guys if Light chooses not to come back.

LOL someone the other day mentioned Kaczur when they said the Patriots take care of people.
Is the money going to Logan, Matt or both.
My guess is to Matt Light.
In Bill wen trust I see us moving around and still leaving the draft with 7 or 8 need guys.

Well, I can see the Pat's position. He is not worth $3.4m. He had some decent years but coming off of back surgery, his future is cloudy at best.

The timing of this seems a little strange. Why wouldn't this conversation with Kaczur be happening *after* the draft and CBA are agreed to when the coffers would be restocked? Must be that there is a significant roster bonus or something due soon.

There's a good reason for it. They want to know whether they should plan on him being on the team or not, it will impact their draft strategy.

Maybe he gets that original paycheck somewhere else, but I doubt it. Thanks
for being an OK player Nick, but your play isn't worth that kind of money.

Surprised, but if they don't think he is worth it, I can see why they will get rid of him.

I am sure it's more if he will keep healthy than his skill.

He is a good lineman, but his best years are behind him. 3.4 is a lot of money for someone we got along fine without.

TBH, I never really felt he was that good. But he's still better than Wendell or LeVoir I'm sure if he came back as a backup.

Information about whether Kaczur is staying may also affect their stance in the Light negotiations.

Probably not the biggest factor, given the relative amounts of money involved, but everything fits together to some extent.

All the source said was that Kaczur was asked to take a cut and that he declined. That is a long way from that to "heading for a split".

Unless there is a roster bonus due this week, the patriots don't lose anything by waiting to cut Kaczur. The team can (and should?) wait until after the draft, after the CBA is signed, and perhaps even until after they know where they are with Light.

It seems unlikely that Kaczur would be cut before finding out what we can get in the draft or until Light has signed on the bottom line.

You're absolutely right. And according to Miguel's page, there's no bonus due. So I don't see any reason to hurry and get rid of him.

Anyone we draft before round 6 will be better than Kaczur.

No one was complaining about the Patriots' treatment of him when he got busted for illegal possession of pain pills in 2008. It's all one way with some people. Sure, the Pats were the on the plus side when when he was cleared to play, but they also stood by him when he was in deep doo-doo.

Seems like the Patriots are cheaping out a bit. Kazur is a big galoot with a lot of push and an attitude (ever hear him talk--wow).

This is a big Ugh for the draft. This means a lot of droll OL picks...snore. They need to get Mankins replacement and Kazur's and maybe some more depth.

I caught myself hypnotically watching the OL guys work out the combine; I had to slap myself and get up and do something useful this weekend.

Kaczur isn't worth that amount of money. The Pats are well within their rights to make his move.

Kaczur is mediocre. 3.4m is a lot to pay for a backup RT who sometimes acts as turnstile.

Kaczur isn't very good. I hope they don't end up compromising.

I do think that this leak makes it even more likely that Belichick will draft an OT in the first round. The open question will be how Belichick ahs each of the OT's rated and how many he believes are worth a first round pick. Finally Belichick's folks will do their mocks to see where they think the OT's will fall.

I would not be surprised to see us draft an OT at 17, 33 or anywhere in between.
