Jason McCourty - contract restructure

Interesting.. incentives can make him more money... Glad he's got that added motivation..

Interesting. I like him but I hope he never sees major playing time as that would mean Rowe or Gill are hurt, the kids aren't ready or JJ has regressed

Interesting - per Volin via Jason at OTC, this actually increases his cap charge for this year at the moment, because all incentives added once the season begins are assumed to be LTBE. This may wind up offsetting some of the "losses" they'll get from the Brady and Gronk NLTBE incentives.

Volin is probably wrong.
This was said to have happened before the opened although Volin is such an idiot he probably thinks it’s based upon when he hears about it.

****head Volin is actually correct.

Why would the team agree to a restructure that would cost them cap space — particularly with a player who was perceived to be on the roster bubble coming out of camp? It’s simple, really.

The team clearly sees the value in having McCourty provide depth at multiple positions in the secondary, while also contributing on special teams. However, his contract just wasn’t commensurate with that type of role. In reality, the agreement is a player pay cut of which the salary cap benefits for the organization are deferred. Barring an epidemic of injuries to the team’s secondary, McCourty will not come close to earning much, if not all, of the playing time incentives — as evidence by his 6 defensive snaps played against the Texans. Any unearned incentive cash, as well as any unpaid per-game bonus money, will be credited to the team’s 2019 adjusted cap figure.

Jason McCourty agrees to a restructured deal to remain with the Patriots

He’s correct, but it might be for the wrong reasons. I think Andy is saying (and correct me if I’m wrong) that the contract is reported to have been restructured “before the opener” but he’s skeptical that it actually may have happened during roster cut downs - where the “all incentives are LTBE” rule wouldn’t apply.

That said, the distinction doesn’t matter because per that article based on Reiss’ info, they would be considered LTBE this year regardless because he met all those conditions last year with the Browns. Volin missed that.

Actually Volin is wrong. He said the cap hit was because all adjustment after the season start are considered LTBE. This was done prior to the start if the season but Volin gets it right for the wrong reason because McCourty did actually achieve them last year making it ltbe but not based upon doofus volins reasoning.
Even when he is right it’s a mistake.

He should've been told to take the vet minimum or buh-bye.

Oh yea he did say it that way.

Idiot.
