Isn't KCs offer to Pioli a demotion?? (if true)

Wow, do you actually know this to be true, or is it something you infer from reading/listening to local sports sports media? Not saying it doesn't make sense - it does - but how do you people learn stuff like this about the Pats inner workings?

According to this article from 2000 (Patriots Hire Pioli), Pioli was hired as "Assistant Director of Player Personnel". That certainly makes it sound like the position he was hired for was below Belichick's. Now he's obviously been promoted since then, but I do find it unlikely that he was promoted over Belichick.
