Well,
I think that Mangini & Tannenbaum are both gone regardless of what happens. There has been too much inconsistancy the past three years to justify keeping them around. Had there been a sense of steady improvement from week to week, things might be different, but as it stands, no one on the JETS knows what team will show up each week when they take the field. An organization like the JETS has too much money invested right now to continue to just muddle along, and the fan base will no longer allow it. Fans will always find something to carp about in any situation, but this year it's different. This year, there was supposed to be demonstrable progress, a step up into some serious, year-to-year competition against the division opponents. there was a glimpse of that, but then a crash back to reality: Same Old JETS.
Ownership is tired of hearing that refrain, especially now that it's being touted in EVERY part of the media down there. The fans won't take anymore. The only way to keep the media and the fans at bay is to make a sacrificial offering to appease their blood lust. Tossing Mangini and Tannenbaum under the bus, declaring a rebuilding year, and bringing in a new coach might buy the FO a couple years, time to catch their breath and sort things out.
