Given the Jets late season meltdown, and all the big names brought in, I'd say Mangini is probably on the hottest of seats right now. People are muttering about the posibility of Mangini throwing the game to keep the Pats out of the playoffs, but I think there is too much at stake.

According to many people in New York, including Mike Francesa - yes.

I remember hearing some rumors at the beginning of the season that EM opposed trading for BF and cutting CP and it was thrust upon him. If the fish do better than the rats it would prove him right.

If he's not, nobody in the JEST front office gives a shzit about winning.

Well, if the Jets let the Pennington led Dolphins win the division at 11-5 and the Jets who loaded up to win now finish 9-7 and losing four out of the last five, I don't see Mangini keeping his job. The Jets spent the offseason spending a fortune to win now. The Dolphins were rather prudent with their money and aimed to build for a year or two down the line.

So if the Dolphins win two more games than the Jets and win the division, there is only two places Woody Johnson can look to see that something is going horribly wrong. Either Tanenbaum misread the talent that he was paying top dollar for or Mangini cannot drive the BMW he has been given or both.

Personally, Tannenbaum should get canned too if Mangini goes. Brett Favre was a mistake and a waste of a third round draft pick. Calvin Pace showed some flashes of dominance, but over all was not worth the money he was paid. Damien Woody was grossly overpaid. After 2/3 of the season of dominance, Kris Jenkins is living up to his bill of being injury prone and lacking conditioning since he has fallen completely off the cliff in terms of production. Faneca is still decent, but not worth the money. Ferguson is overrated and a disapointment at where he was picked, but no where near the bust Gholston is turning out to be. Gholston may be one of the biggest busts in recent draft history if he doesn't turn it around quickly. Both Kerry Rhodes and Bryan Thomas has become pedestrian after big contracts. Tannenbaum has made some really good draft selections, but he overall has been a average talent evaluator.

Mangini could coach for his job and get too cute and muck it up more.

    Well,

I think that Mangini & Tannenbaum are both gone regardless of what happens. There has been too much inconsistancy the past three years to justify keeping them around. Had there been a sense of steady improvement from week to week, things might be different, but as it stands, no one on the JETS knows what team will show up each week when they take the field. An organization like the JETS has too much money invested right now to continue to just muddle along, and the fan base will no longer allow it. Fans will always find something to carp about in any situation, but this year it's different. This year, there was supposed to be demonstrable progress, a step up into some serious, year-to-year competition against the division opponents. there was a glimpse of that, but then a crash back to reality: Same Old JETS.

Ownership is tired of hearing that refrain, especially now that it's being touted in EVERY part of the media down there. The fans won't take anymore. The only way to keep the media and the fans at bay is to make a sacrificial offering to appease their blood lust. Tossing Mangini and Tannenbaum under the bus, declaring a rebuilding year, and bringing in a new coach might buy the FO a couple years, time to catch their breath and sort things out.

A BMW that misfires all the time won't get you very far. And Favre has been misfiring lately....:D
