Concussions are caused by the brain rattling around in the head, increasing neck strength does nothing to prevent that.
Actually, this is supported by research, the article just doesn't cite it. Neck strength is one of the few things that has been shown to decrease incidences of concussions. If you have a kid playing a contact sport with high concussion rates, football, hockey, soccer, have him/her make neck strength a part of the training program. Won't eliminate concussions, but helps reduce frequency and severity.
How does having stronger neck muscles reduce the incidence of the brain rattling around in the head?
If they want to reduce concussions they'd teach more body skills, in boxing they call it "rolling with the punches", it's when someone yeilds to oncoming force rather than absorbing it, THAT will prevent/reduce concussions.
