If a picture paints a thousand words then the look of a very relaxed and obviously happy Bill at todays media event gives me the impression that he is not only proud of this years team but this team might very well be his favorite in all the years he has been coaching here.

And why not? This team is chock full of no named guys that were tossed away to the waiver wire....guys that were released or weren't even drafted.

There are a bunch of blue collar guys in this bunch and much less big names than ever before.....there are no well known veteran pro bowlers like Seymour,Harrison,Bruschi,Moss around anymore, yet here he is back on the podium on the big stage, but this time with a smile to the media like never before.

Add in the fact that this team is where it's at when the defense was ridiculed consistently by the media can certainly tell why Bill seems like a proud daddy on his group of overachievers.

That look that Bill had today shows me he believes he has something special going on with these guys.....and a victory on Sunday Night will be evident he had exactly that....a special family bonded together as a TEAM in the quest for the Championship and a tribute and season dedicated to a special Woman whose initials will shine off those uniforms in the spotlight on Sunday night.

There are a lot of well-known veteran pro bowlers on this roster. Not as many as in years past, maybe, but Brady, Welker, Ochocinco, Light, Mankins, Waters, Wilfork, Carter and Mayo aren't nothing.

I'm actually referring to the core of the defense that won those super bowls are no longer here, the Pats of 2007 and before....mainly on defense, yet the team is back at the show.

Wilfork is the only defender with a Pats ring and that is something hard to believe.

I certainly agree that if they pull it off next Sunday, they will go down as a true "team" that played to all 53 guys (and then some...)

While having a TON of flaws in certain areas, they were able to work hard, do their jobs properly, and not lose sight of the bigger picture.

However, there is still work to be done; and the challenge at hand is a tough task.

Maybe Bill is simply taking a different approach since the last time they may have been wound a bit too tightly? All of the 19-0 talk etc could not have been good. On top of that, there was the (incorrect) story from the Herald etc. Wow. What a weird year that was, huh? They later apologized. Just like the refs and NFL officiating in the 2006 AFCCG. A lot of good that did

Now that I think of it, we've actually gotten a ton of incredible lousy luck in the past 5 yrs. If the blessing of good fortune is actually on our side this time, then so be it. What goes around comes around sometimes.

Yeah....... He certainly seems to be a different guy up there. While it's nice to see, I have a wee bit of a nagging feeling growing inside of me.

He's really been doing this all year. Talking about how he's not easy to play for... How much he appreciates his players, etc..... These last few weeks at the podium, he seems so relaxed and "content".

I've seen guys getting up there in years suddenly seem to relax at work and come across in a very contented way like this before......... and it usually means one thing. They are winding down and getting ready to retire and just enjoying one last "go around".

Jesus........ There it is. I said it. God I hope I'm wrong, but I'd be lying if I said the thought had not crossed my mind.

With so many guys who have never been to this "ship" before, he may be setting a calm example..

I'd be lying if I said the thought has not crossed my mind too, as long as we're being honest.

That said, it's probably quite silly to speculate based on body language ;)

I really think that Kraft re-ups his deal as soon as the off-season is over, or at the very least sometime before next season starts. I am sure that Kraft will come up with the right figure in terms of compensation, and will not let anything get in the way of another 5-6 yr deal.

At least I hope. I just couldn't see a guy like Belichick pulling a fast one and leaving the team high and dry like that, without planning a yr or two ahead in the future.

There could be many different reasons as to why he's taking this calm approach, many different reasons.

I did think I should be honest and tell you that I had thought of what you're saying though, at least when I first saw that calm and relaxed demeanor.

My guess is that the team is young/inexperienced, and he does not want to get them any more worried or anxious than they already will be.

Yes. A lot of youth and inexperience in these huge game settings. He may have seen a little something last week that he didn't like too.

There are lots of reasons to speculate, but I think yours is a very good chance at being correct. It certainly makes a lot of sense.

Mayo and Gostkowski are veteran pro bowlers, too.

I would rather he be his usual non-smiling self... he was this jovial in SB42 as well

Maybe SB42 was a learning experience for BB and he wants to enjoy the moment as one never knows when they'll be back.

Alternately, he's down right giddy as he knows he has a phenomenal game plan worthy of a HOF placement...:rocker:

    Folks.

He has ALWAYS been more engaging and relaxed with the national media at the SB opening press conferences. It's happened at least the last two times - - and probably the others. I remember thinking in Feb 2008 and Feb 2005 how differently he treats the national media at these things compared to the everyday locals at his pressers.

So our coach is smiling and we break out the psychology and conspiracy theories? We are a pretty funny group. Maybe we should just take a lesson from him and enjoy the success and the experience.
