The only record Brady is chasing is most Super Bowl wins by a QB. Manning wants to play until he gets all the individual statistic records. That is why he only has one ring and it is looking more and more like he may retire with just one ring.
Manning should be celebrated as one of the NFL's all time greats. Manning should not be celebrated as the Greatest of All Time because his post-season record demands so.
What's more likely:
1) That Ian Rapoport actually has sources that know exactly how long Manning planning on playing and why (which other, far better writers don't have) or
2) That he's still a hack who makes up clickbait headlines in hopes of remaining relevant.
I think Peyton is going to need to find a new stacked team soon since the rookie contracts of his wide receivers are going to end at some point leaving him to fend for himself. The Raiders look ripe for the picking. Or maybe the Cards or the Rams can fire their QBs for him if he asks nice and gives them lots of pizza.
Those rookie WRs have only one more year iirc. I think that's the end of the line.
There's a lot of pent up annoyance given the free passes Peyton is continually given by the media and NFL as an industry despite a long career of playoff failure. Meanwhile, Brady has to scrap for every compliment. You're absolutely right and I'm a Broncos fan. The 5 MVPs are impressive, but no way he's #1 in my book. I understand the rivalry with him and Brady being the best of the past decade but every week there seems to be some type of Manning controversy here. Ian Rappaport writes an article saying he believes Peyton will come back to break all the records and this means it's true? Did I miss something saying he got this directly from Peyton?
Did I miss the part where Manning actually said that? Or are you guys grasping at straws for a reason to hate on Peyton?
Sadly, no such rule exists now in the NFL. . . . Although maybe Brady could adopt Garoppolo.
Not Peyton at all. I'd say, in ten years, he will be somewhere higher than Brett Favre but not mentioned in the same breath as Brady, Montana, Unitas, and Graham. When you talk about the greats of each generation, those are the guys. If Brady wins even one more ring, it'll be a slam dunk.
Peyton is Marino with a ring. Yeah, he's got a ring, but his playoff performance over his career is pretty abysmal. He's a stats guy (a cumulative stats guy at that) and those guys never get the love over the course of history that the champions get.
Anyone remember Dan Fouts?

I'll take Door Number 2!What's more likely:

I think it's possible to agree with what you write (and I do) and also think that it's possible that Manning will retire after this season without going for those records. To the people who say this is ******** media speculation, have you not been paying attention to Peyton Manning his whole career? He is all about ego and individual stats.
Perfect example was the Oakland game where their backup QB was supposed to get in, in the third but Manning just goes in regardless. It's all about the stats.
That's why he isn't a winner.
