I Suspect The Roster Is Almost Set

pretty sure Nunn was hurt yesterday. No?

I still think Galloway is safe, but not so sure about Lewis. It would be a bummer for him to lose his last chance to prove himself based on a cheap shot, though.

BB commented at halftime that McGowan and Lewis were not fighting for roster spots, basically implying they're both safe. I would have to think Galloway is safe also based on the fact he isn't hurt and didn't play.

I have...

DEFENSE (24)
DL Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Green, Brace, Wright, Pryor
DE/OLB Burgess, Banta-Cain
OLB Thomas, Woods, Crable
ILB Mayo, Guyton, Lenon
CB Bodden, Wilhite, Springs, Butler, Wheatley

Most likely changes: swap out BJGE for Morris, Britt for O'Callaghan, Connolly for Wendell, Nunn for Lewis, Alexander for Lenon.

Assuming no changes, that leaves one spot for: Ninkovich, Nunn, Alexander, Ventrone or BJGE. (I'm assuming poor Slater's headed to IR.) Nunn has impressed the heck out of me and is a KR option to replace Slater, Ventrone is great on ST coverage, but given the composition of the roster I'm taking Ninkovich.

How's Crable justified to be on this active 53? He's not making that. Maybe a PUP or another IR. Active? Dont see it. And Lenon? Dont see it there, either. One of those linemen, either Wendell or O'C isnt making this active 53. I dont know if even Walter is making this 53 at this point. I would surely think so, but not getting any time at all last night, and knowing the Edelman is capable of emergency QB duty in a pinch, makes it quite possible that Walter doesnt make it. Lots of bubble players Id like to see make this team.

1. Crable is not PUP eligible, and dressed last night so IR seems unlikely. You can cut him or not, that's it.

2. If you don't like Lenon, feel free to substitute Alexander as noted in the "likely changes." Realistically, Thomas is probably #3 on the ILB depth chart.

3. If you cut Wendell (and don't substitute Connolly), your only backup center is a guy who played guard in college and who butchered a shotgun snap last night. If you cut O'C (and don't substitute Britt) then Vollmer is the entire bench behind two essential positions.

4. Personally, I don't know that about Edelman at all. A couple of snaps, maybe; a game, definitely not.

5. You only listed your cuts, not who you'd carry instead. Any thoughts?

That's exactly the 53 I have had for almost a week now. My preference by far would to bring in an outside player at ILB.

Uh-oh...when you and I agree completely we always end up wrong!

Lenon out, BJGE or Alexander in, Nunn, Ninko to PS. Apologies to Ventrone.

Ninkovich is just another TBC or Burgess. Two of those guys is enough.

Agree here I would go with the group with BJGE being #53. While we usually wouldn't keep 5 RB's with 3 RB on the wrong side of 30 + Maroney having a history of not being the most durable back, I think we will this year.

Did BJGE play on ST's last night?

Lenon and his 235 and lack of versatility out. Ninkovich and his 255 and ability to play OLB or ILB in the 3-4 in. Nunn in, O'C out. And BJGE would take that final spot. Somewhere, someone on this 53 is getting PUPd or IRed. We may not yet know who, but it always happens, and Im counting on atleast 2 roster spots being impacted by those decisions.

When has Ninkovich played inside in the 3-4? How are people getting this?

Lenon can play both OLB and ILB in the 4-3. Ninkovich can only play OLB in the 3-4 and DE in the 4-3.

Um, we do know who is getting PUP'd. Only LeVoir and Tate can get PUP'd, and they already have. Nobody else can go on PUP.

It's like Barwin and Beatty at 23 and 34 - what could be more obvious?

Who's the last 235lb LB we've ever seen play here? That's too small imo in any Bill Belichick system. Dont see it. As for Ninko on the inside, Ive seen enough of him already in our system to know he could move inside in a 3-4 in run situations and man that position, and continue to learn and develop in that area. Im not signing off on Lenon as an OLB in a 4-3 base with this team. And Im just not seeing it with that guy period in this D. Stat stuffing for the Lions for a couple years in a 4-3 doesnt qualify anyone to make a championship caliber team.

I think Watson is gone. Why else put him in the 2nd half if he is a roster lock?

At least Lenon has actually played that position. You're just guessing that Ninkovich can play ILB, despite the fact that he was a DE in the Saints' 4-3 and an OLB in the Dolphins' 3-4.

Watson may just end up getting cut. I dont think he will, but we'll soon see. But as for why you play him last night? The man needed the work. He needed to shake some of that rust off before week 1, imo. He needed to get re-acclimated to game speed because he hadnt really seen much action prior to last night.

Im not guessing at anything. Im assessing. Im guessing that Lenon isnt a good enough player to make this roster. About that I am guessing. Bruschi himself played nothing but end until learning the inside position. Vrabel had only ever played end or OLB before learning to do it on the fly and manning that spot pretty well. You have athletic ability, size, and an ability to learn a new position, all of which I see in Ninko, you can make it work. Youre a 235lb LBer trying to make the roster of a man KNOWN to utilize very large LBs? You better be darned good. And I just havent seen that.
