    #12 Jersey

    #15 ILB Maualuga (=#23 + #57)
    #34 OLB Conner Barwin
    #47 SS Patrick Chung
    #89 ILB Jasper Brinkley
    #99 OC Antoine Caldwell

What's not to like? Big, strong, physical players.

I seriously considered #23 ILB Laurinaitis, but couldn't find a player at #57 that I felt really excited about, the way I am about the idea of putting Maualuga on the roster.

At #34, there are so many good players to choose from. Barwin is the binkey, but Robiskie would be a great pick that no one seems to be talking about. Plus, English, Sintim... Alex Mack and Max Unger, Louis Delmas... all legit starters, and probably all available at #34.

With that thought, my next idea was trading back into that zone. What do you think of trading back #23 to Cincinnati for #38 and #70. With #99 as a presumptive compensatory for Asante, that would mean seven picks in the first 100.

    #34 - OLB Clint Sintim
    #38 - OLB Conner Barwin
    #47 - SS Patrick Chung
    #57 - DT Ron Brace
    #70 - CB Mike Mickens
    #89 - ILB Jasper Brinkley
    #99 - OC Antwoine Caldwell

With Sintim and Barwin in rotation with Thomas, Woods and TBC, we finally have the same depth at the position that we had in the days of McGinest, Vrabel, Colvin and Phifer.

What makes it appealing to trade back is the fact that this draft class runs so deep. I dont think the dropoff from #23 to #38 is really all that dramatic... and the proof is that many mock drafts have teams reaching for Sintim and Barwin in the 20s, and some have them dropping into the 40s.

Maualuga and Brinkley? We had 2 rookies last year Rook. Think you're overdoing it a bit there. Plus, A.Thomas can always slide inside. I'd prefer him at olb. But, we can tinker a little with him if necessary. I think we might have to take Barwin at 23 if we want him. Pass-rushers almost always go before projected. How bout?

    1. C. Barwin - OLB
    2A. J. Gilbert - DE
    2B. P. Chung - ss
    2C E. Wood - G/C
    3A J. Brinkley - ILB
    3B WR - D. Butler - PSU??

    How about:

    23. Connor Barwin, OLB
    34. William Beatty, OT (would consider Maualuga or Robert Ayers here if they lasted, but I doubt either will; Beatty may be gone too)
    47. Louis Delmas, S (with William Moore and Patrick Chung as backups if he's gone, in that order of preference)
    58. Eric Wood, OG/C (unless Jarron Gilbert is somehow still available)

I love them all but and they address our needs great. Somehow I feel BB will throw us all off with his picks.

With all of their ammo in the draft (not even counting supplemental picks, which would be announced in the next few days), a trade up is definitely possible. Trading #89 + #34 gets us to around #26 or so according to the old value charts (which are admittedly controversial, but there's no agreed substitute). Consider the following:

    23 - Connor Barwin, OLB
26 - Rey Maualuga, ILB (or Robert Ayers/Larry English)
    47 - Louis Delmas, S (or William Moore/Patrick Chung)
    58 - Eric Wood, OG/C

    That could actually happen.

    What about:

    #34 and #58 for #19

#19 Michael Oher or Eben Britton OT
    #23 Connor Barwin OLB
    #47 for a 2010 first rounder (if not possible a 2nd with a 3rd)
#89 Eric Wood or Levitre or Canfield or even Caldwell

I like Maualuga but with Bru, Guyton, AD and Seau (shadow roster) we're fine this year. With 2 first rounders we can get ILB Brandon Spikes Florida next year.

A)I would love a move like this. At a minimum they would need to push Kaczur off the starting lineup, if not Light-who I dislike incredibly...not healthy really, just not impressed with the crunch-time jumps...many of them at home in the peace and quiet of friendly fans:mad:

B)How about we make a run for Taylor Mays S USC! I would love to see that combo of size and speed become the next Rodney for us(Ok, a bit presumptive, but deal with it). I have a feeling he'd only be hear for the duration of his first contract before chasing a pay-day, but damn I'd love to see him on our team next year at camp. Any takers?

I like Mays, actually I was thinking on him with our other first rounder (the higher) imagine our 2010 draft class with Mays and Spikes:)

    #75 Jersey

    #15 ILB Maualuga (=#23 + #58)

    #47 SS Patrick Chung
    #89 ILB Jasper Brinkley
    #99 OC Antoine Caldwell

I like Barwin,Maualuga and Chung. I think they are 3 starters. I'd like to see a tackle or guard brought in with 89.

We might be close to bingo, if they could pull this off. But your scenario would make WAY too much sense for most people.

I think we'd need to trade up to get him, unless he screws the pooch, so to speak next year. I'd say there is no doubt that he is a top 10 pick. Unless he has a brick taking up the majority of the space between his ears I just can't see why this kid wouldn't be any good. Granted I don't watch too much college ball, so I haven't been able to see him too much, from what I've been able to read/digest/scrape up he seems like the real deal. Believe me, I'll be doing my best to catch some more games this year.

Works for me, just about what I called for in the Barwin thread. The only change I would make is replacing Brinkley with a good 3-4 DE prospect (Gilbert would be good if available) as I think we need to draft a Seymour replacement a year early. To ensure that I would flip him and the Safety, we may not get Chung at 89 but there's a decent group of Safeties.

    Maualuga
    Barwin
    Gilbert
    Safety

    Would be awesome.

    As would :

    Barwin
    Sintim
    Gilbert
    Safety

Well i would like to see some OL some where in there. Barwin Sintim Duke Robinson Chung. Or pick up Vaughn at 89 and take Gilbert instead of Chung.

Per Dan Pompei -- Linebackers: Three linebackers from USC could be chosen in the first round, but probably not in the order of their Wonderlic scores. Clay Matthews scored 27, Brian Cushing 23 and Rey Maualuga 15. Maualuga's score is slightly troubling considering he likely will be a middle linebacker who is asked to call the defenses. [IMG]

The point is that there's certain attributes we need and that we don't need and we don't need a leader who will call the defense because we have one. If Mayo gets hurt we make do with another veteran like Thomas. But a smart, playcalling leader isn't at the top of my list for what I am looking for as an ILB to pair with Mayo because we already have one of those.

Guyton. I don't think anyone would be looking to Maualuga to take over Mayo's role. His Wonderlic isn't impressive, but I don't think it affects my view of how he would fit.
