I seriously considered #23 ILB Laurinaitis, but couldn't find a player at #57 that I felt really excited about, the way I am about the idea of putting Maualuga on the roster.

At #34, there are so many good players to choose from. Barwin is the binkey, but Robiskie would be a great pick that no one seems to be talking about. Plus, English, Sintim... Alex Mack and Max Unger, Louis Delmas... all legit starters, and probably all available at #34.

With that thought, my next idea was trading back into that zone. What do you think of trading back #23 to Cincinnati for #38 and #70. With #99 as a presumptive compensatory for Asante, that would mean seven picks in the first 100.

With Sintim and Barwin in rotation with Thomas, Woods and TBC, we finally have the same depth at the position that we had in the days of McGinest, Vrabel, Colvin and Phifer.

What makes it appealing to trade back is the fact that this draft class runs so deep. I dont think the dropoff from #23 to #38 is really all that dramatic... and the proof is that many mock drafts have teams reaching for Sintim and Barwin in the 20s, and some have them dropping into the 40s.

With all of their ammo in the draft (not even counting supplemental picks, which would be announced in the next few days), a trade up is definitely possible. Trading #89 + #34 gets us to around #26 or so according to the old value charts (which are admittedly controversial, but there's no agreed substitute). Consider the following:

26 - Rey Maualuga, ILB (or Robert Ayers/Larry English)
47 - Louis Delmas, S (or William Moore/Patrick Chung)
58 - Eric Wood, OG/C

A)I would love a move like this. At a minimum they would need to push Kaczur off the starting lineup, if not Light-who I dislike incredibly...not healthy really, just not impressed with the crunch-time jumps...many of them at home in the peace and quiet of friendly fans

I think we'd need to trade up to get him, unless he screws the pooch, so to speak next year. I'd say there is no doubt that he is a top 10 pick. Unless he has a brick taking up the majority of the space between his ears I just can't see why this kid wouldn't be any good. Granted I don't watch too much college ball, so I haven't been able to see him too much, from what I've been able to read/digest/scrape up he seems like the real deal. Believe me, I'll be doing my best to catch some more games this year.

Works for me, just about what I called for in the Barwin thread. The only change I would make is replacing Brinkley with a good 3-4 DE prospect (Gilbert would be good if available) as I think we need to draft a Seymour replacement a year early. To ensure that I would flip him and the Safety, we may not get Chung at 89 but there's a decent group of Safeties.

The point is that there's certain attributes we need and that we don't need and we don't need a leader who will call the defense because we have one. If Mayo gets hurt we make do with another veteran like Thomas. But a smart, playcalling leader isn't at the top of my list for what I am looking for as an ILB to pair with Mayo because we already have one of those.
