Correctly pointing out that Colts are not really into the confusion business, and will rush you straight up. They play where they line up.

Our OL must have a big day.

I woulnd't be surprised if you didn't see the Pats line up one of their offensive lineman in the TE position to give Volmer help like they did last week.

Also, alot of screen passes to Welker to exploit the young DB's and slow down the pass rush.

The #1 key against the Colts defense is not to get into obvious passing situations which allow Freeney/Mathis to pin their ears back and rush.

If the Pats offense can get into short and manageable 2nd/3rd downs then they'll be fine. If not, it will be troublesome.

Yeah... if Tate plays and Brady has time to throw. If Brady can sit back in the pocket like he has been, forget about it. That secondary is going to be torched. The only thing that would put the game in doubt is if Manning does the same to ours.

One part of it is going to be the battle of the OL's.. that will be big in determining who gets to pick apart whose DB's. Colts have a battered secondary and BB won't compromise his DB's in pass rushing, so the potential for each quarterback to have all day to stand in the pocket and throw, is there.

I agree, except that I can see one DB in pass rushing duties when he's in and that's Chung... right up one of the A-Gaps.

"Mathis and Freeney are two of the fastest players at their position in the NFL, and their speed has helped make the Colts one of the league’s fastest defenses. They each run the 40-yard dash in about 4.56-4.57 seconds, Polian said shortly after the draft. "

I think Manning is going to be looking for that one. His film habits are legendary. Right now he's probably seen all 8 games and is now combing through our preseason for anything he hasn't seen yet.

Whatever fast one we manage to pull on him is something that hasn't been featured this season at all. I am not surprised at all that BB did not give Monday off. Those DB's are going to have to be very sharp and on top of their game, come Sunday night.

If we win, I guarantee you that the game ball goes to the DB corp.

To be honest, I've been wracking my brain going over possible match ups for the Colts game and the more I look at them, the more I realise that putting aside the Colts defensive scheme, the Patriots receiving corp and Brady vs their secondary is a gross mismatch in our favour. You could say the same for Manning and his receivers against our secondary, but from what I have seen, I believe our d-backs (provided they don't afford the soft cushion we have seen in some games) are becoming one of the best units in the NFL.

I really hope we can contain Freeney and Mathis on the line.

The big difference is the Colts don't play Man, so no one person has to cross the formation with moss and there is help when he does catch the ball.

That huge play wa made possible by man to man coverage.

That's a funny thought because that is exactly the thought on the Colts secondary. With Just Kelvin Hayden back this unit is amazing.

Bethea is one of the best Free Safeties in the League.
Bullit makes about 75% of the plays Bob Sanders makes he just doesn't make the spectacular play.
Jerrod Powers has come in and played much better then his years. He doesn't look like a rookie and plays very physical.
Put Kelvin on the other side and I would take that Secondary over just about any other in the league.

Admitidly I do not know much about the Pats secondary so I will get to see them work this sunday, but I found it funny that both teams feel exactly the same way about their young secondaries.

But this Sunday Hayden wont be in there and the Pats secondary is not that young. Bodden, Springs, McGowan, Merriweather, Sanders, etc.... have been in the league for a few years.

That Colt secondary, especially now as constructed with rookie corners, is tremendously aided by the pass rush that Freeney and Mathis apply to the QB. If the Pats OL can control the pass rush and give Brady even a little time, then the Pats passing attack should exploit what is a suspect Colts secondary.

This is the first year where I think the secondary is helping the front 4 almost as much as the front 4 is helping the secondary.

There have been more coverage sacks this year then I think in the last 4 years combined.

There was a play in the Houston game where we got a sack after 5-6 seconds of coverage. You give an NFL quarterback (I am not talking Jamarcus Russell who is a quarterback in the NFL, rather an NFL calibur quarterback) 5-6 seconds they should find someone with ease.

Granted the strength of our defense is the front 4 but the secondary this year has not been so easily exploited. Unless you are talking about Tim Jennings.

Maroney and Faulk must be big factors this weekend.

Chris Baker is going to be the unsung hero this week, and is key to the protection of Brady. There was a great clip you all should check out on Patriots.com. In the BB Breakdown, one of the plays they reviewed was the Moss TD. In it you will see Baker in pass protection, one on one with Jason Taylor. Baker not only stones Taylor he hits him in the chest so hard, he DROPPED him.

While he isn't catching a lot of balls this season, Baker is earning his check in the running game and in pass protection.....and, as you will see, is GOOD at it.

    #12 Jersey

It'll be interesting to see how the Colts secondary handles a top QB with top receiving weapons ......
