He is going to physically wear down a lot quicker than the other rookies, .
An Olympic athlete is going to wear down from practices and a few touches per game?

Durability might be an issue, but I'm not staying up late worrying about that.

File this under this guy is crazy and just making things up but I dont see why being smaller automatically equates to injury.

Clearly he is going to lose a lot of individual battles if strength becomes the determining factor but he should be able to use his quickness to help get his body in a good position to take hits. Wes does this all the time.

That part wasnt to crazy but now here we go. Might losing the battle of strength help him avoid some injuries. A guy that comes to mind is Ted Johnson and the 2 years he lost to bicep tears, here is one of the biggest strongest LBs I have seen and he tears muscles off the bone trying to make a tackle. Had this been a smaller guy he likely just gets bulled right over but Ted Johnson was so strong he held on just his tendons didnt.

This is sort of the Drunk Driver anology not sure if you guys have ever heard this or if there is any truth to it but I have heard in drunk driving accidents the sober people tend to get hurt worse then the drunk ones and the supposed reason for this being that the drunk guy is lose and may not even know the colision is coming while the sober guys sees it and tenses up.

Another anology might be with a brick wall compared to dry wall or something. if you ran right into the brickwall I would imagine there is muck more force involved in the contact then running into drywall as the drywall will give. This might not be a great anolgy because clearly the drywall would be damaged but if you used that Ivan Drago punch power testing machine I bet there would be significantly more force recorded.

OK flame on. I am bored at work and the only thing I can do other than post this BS is actual work so dont mind me.

The Navy SEAL's used to (in the 1980's atleast) prefer the thinner, more wirey, guys because the didn't pull muscles with the frequency of the muscle guys.

Ofcourse, depending on the number of collisions will determine when physics wins.

OK so maybe what I came up with in my boredom is not completely crazy.

I think he is more subject to being bruised and probably breaking a bone though I have no clue if muscle and size equate to stronger bones.

What I think you lose though is while he may not get hurt like some people fear he is also much much less likely to hurt or inflict pain on the other team.

I think in Ted's case something else may have been afoot...

Demps issues here will likely be with ball security (1 fumble in every 39 touches) and fielding (he fielded 10 KO's and 2 punts in college) and blocking (which he has to do here to get on the field with the offense). Apparently they had him running routes after practice today and he says he's familiar with the system because of Charlie's year in FL. He also said he's used to going from track and field to football since he did it in college only here the guys are bigger... But I doubt he went almost 8 months without touching a football.

Any word on whether he passed the conditioning test?

;) That was sarcasm for those who are missing the gene......

No, but he'd routinely go six months IIRC.

Durability shouldn't be an issue as it's not very likely that he'll have more than a handful of touches with the regular offense. At this point he's a kick return specialist. Maybe he can work into a Sproles type role, but I'm not holding out hope for that.

They can run him out onto the field twice a game, on second or third down, make sure the other team notices, and have the defense suddenly have to remember who he is and what they are going to do about him. Put him in the slot and have his presence completely dominate the defensive thinking and communication, leading to openings for other players. Every DB will be thinking, "that's the guy that is a lot faster than me" which is not something that goes through their brains often.

Jeff Demps 5'7 183
Darren Sproles 5'6 190
Jamaal Charles 5'11 199
Chris Johnson 5'11 191

His frame isn't too bad and would be very good if he got back to his Florida weight at 190.

i want to see the Johnson vs Demps race for charity ... NFL Vets charity.

Wes Welker per NFL.com: 5'9, 185
Jeff Demps per Olympic site: 5'9, 180

Wes Welker doesn't stay in to block LBs running straight at him and the occasional rogue DL. Wes Welker blocks DBs and LBs who haven't built a head of steam yet.

Johnson can beat Usain Bolt apparently so Demps doesn't stand much of a chance

Based on his splits, Bolt would run a sub-4.0 forty. It's insane.

all this drama....just ridiculous

OK, cut Demps and his 4.1 speed immediately and bring back Fanonnynunu to save money because THAT is what is important...the money the Pats are spending...of their money...it's got everyone nutso...

please get here, regular season...PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He raced him when?
Johnson may beat him in the 40 ... maybe .... but not the 100.
Bolt's split is like a 4.22 forty.

Bolt is a slow starter due to his height in a lot of his races he is in last place at 40 yards. BFD. Check the 2012 Olympic finals for example, he blows the field away over the last 50m, the 200 M dash is his best event. If he wanted I think he could smash the 400m WR.

Demps has won the NCAA 60 yd dash 3 times. Smaller guy faster start and quicker to top speed better for Football.

Demps at the Olympic trials was even with R Gay at 50 yards when Gay ran a PR of 9.8.

Upon hearing the glowing news about our speedy olympian today,I heard Rex Ryan was 'down in the Demps' after unsuccessfully trying to lure him to NY.
