Typical Felgerish....nothing of a surprise..except that when he makes a comment like he did in his last words..he shows what a complete hypocrit he really is He was riding Beisel ALL the way out the door...and he NOW makes a comment like that?? He'll use anything to promte himself..as far as I'm concerned he's a pompous a-***** the sooner his squeeze gets her act together in another city the sooner the ***** will be gone from here....

    Disable Jersey

I had a few minor disagreements with the article, but he hit the 'issues' and, even if I didn't agree with every take he had, I did agree with most of them.

It's a sad day when Felger spends an entire article pummeling the team and I have to agree with him on almost all counts.

Same here sad to say. Borges started to backslide a tad this week but that's because he still subconsciously desperately wants vindication. Felger on the other hand absent his aborted solo foray into ratings driven radio, has regained his admiration for the organization in the big picture and as in 2001 wants to see them find a way to shock the world and he gets it will take a tad more than verbal support of an inexperienced yet somewhat intriguing backup QB because he knows it took more than that to allow Brady to lead that 2001 team to that first improbable championship. Matt needs more than a pat on the ass from some veteran multi-millionaires. He needs 110% effort from them consistently. Something Brady got from the core leaders here even as he too struggled to find his rhythm early on.

Felger has been much better since moving to EEI. In fact, I actually look forward to hearing him in spot duty on EEI b/c I know he is at least capable of generating a valuable sports conversation. Can't say that about all the hosts on EEI.

Just have to say I think he's wrong about Moss - and Troy Brown was on Sports Tonight last nite with him and basically shut down Felgers argument on Moss. Brown flat out said that the passes to him were off the mark, underthrown and that Moss did what he was supposed to do - not go for the ball until the very last minute so as to tip off the defender as to where the ball was, particularly since it was underthrown.

So, even a revised and improved Felger still has his stubbornness. Despite an experienced and respected NFL receiver explicitly telling him that Moss did as best he could and that it was the quarterback's fault, Felger can't help but criticize Moss.

    Deus? Are you there?

Not having read the article first, it was curious to see your grudging acceptance of Felger's opinions. Now I know why. You might want to rethink your reliance on using Randy Moss as the scapegoat before you sink deeper into the quicksand.

Well even different players have different opinions. Fred Smerlas and Christian Fauria who are a tad more removed from the immediate than Troy said on Sunday night he has to fight to catch those balls and on the SLIGHT underthrow he has to use his body to box the defender. Stealth may be Randy's game but he's waving for the damn ball and once it's in his mitts he better hang on to it. This isn't something in a vacuum either - been the case since the end of last regular season. His only pass from Brady this season he freakin' fumbled...and after holding the ball a tad too long for his own health to get it to Moss Tommy hobbled off the field for the last time this season knowing that.

For sure. Felger will always be right whenever the Pats lose or flat out stink  same as a cheerleader type will always be right whenever the Pats steamroll their way to victory.

If your misery needs company,Felgie's your go to guy:D

Actually he's fairer and less crazed than a lot of them-Maz,King,Borges who simply hates ALL things Belichick, and the list goes on. Tom Jackson...so many.

Slight underthrow is far, far too forgiving. I support Cassel too, but if we're talking about that first deep pass to Moss, well Moss was slowing down for at least 10 yards, its well more than a slight underthrow. He had the guy burnt off the line w no safety help in sight, it should've been a sure TD, but Cassel missed badly and let the DB catch up. It's hard to blame Moss for that, at all. And when it comes to analyzing receiver play, I will take Troy's word over Smerlas or even Fauria's.

Moss isn't even on my blame pie for the loss the other nite. He got open for would-be scores in 3 situations, and Cassel missed him each time - and maybe on rewatch I'll see a fair share of blame should go to the porous offensive line.

Cassel had a bad day, probably his first real bad day, the OL had a worse day [again], but Moss was doing his job out there, and if we're going to fault him for not making up for the rest of the offense's ineffectiveness, I don't find that fair.

I caught part of Freddie's commentary too and that's exactly what he said about Moss and those catches. Not to dish Randy but he's had some difficulties that actually began to come into question at the end of last season.

Anyway,Sunday BB was a guest on Totally Patriots. One of the kids asked him who was the speediest player. Without hesitation BB said Randy Moss.

I like Smerlas, but if there's one player on the Patriots roster he's apt to criticize, its Moss. Smerlas was completely opposed to Moss and ripped on him for months before the trade happened. Granted, Smerlas has been fair to him ever since he got here - but again, when it comes to Troy Brown v Smerlas in analyzing Moss' play the other day or on any day, I'll take Troy.

Moss has been doing his job: he's been getting open, its unfair to criticize him for any struggles the offense has had so far this season. Just as its unfair to criticize Cassel when there's an interior defensive lineman or two in his face by the time he drops back to pass. When player X or unit X makes a mistake, you don't criticize player Y or unit Y for being unable to make up for that mistake.

I've always been on Randy's bandwagon ever since we got him and I'm definitely not dishing him or blaming him for any losses. All I'm saying is that it's not totally out of the realm of validity to take a closer look. Lord knows good players have been scrutinized for much less;)

im starting to agree w/ the Moss comments

in the first ball, (the onw undertthrown by cassel), Moss could have turned around and jumped up...to catch the ball...

he had teh ability t9 do it, but not the will

if our best player on offense does not try, Cassel, and thereby ou roffense, and thereby our team will fail this season

He's bang on with his assessment of the game. I think he gave the coaching staff too light of a grade. I would have given them a D for not making the necessary adjustments at the half. If you don't agree with his assessment you're probably letting your grudge against him cloud your judgement.

    1. Terrible quarterback play by Cassel.... On the snap before, Cassel missed an open Heath Evans in the flat.

Saw that and from my seat, he wasn't very open. Looked as if Cassel locked onto Evans as if Heath was the only option in the play. When it wasn't there, the play was dead.

Cassel kept his head up the entire time on his interception to Quintin Jammer on the next series, but he somehow failed to see that his receiver (Wes Welker) had gotten chipped and wouldn't be at the spot where Cassel was throwing.

Watching it on replay, it looked as if Welker ran into his own player. Some body screwed up the routes on that one.

    3. Soft coverage in the secondary. But it also includes non-existent safety help.

This has to fall on Bill's shoulders. After O'Neal got burnt on the first play, I couldn't understand why they didn't put a safety over the top. They were clearly avoiding Hobbs early in the game.

To me, this is a huge issue. Safeties might had been staying in to watch the run or cover Gates.... even rush the QB, but even if that was the case, they were ineffective. If the LBs covered better, maybe the safeties could help the corners. Just think if Chambers was healthy for this game!

    4. The pass rush is a joke.

Mike Vrabel had something like 6-7 sacks this time last year. Now he can't even touch the QB and Seymour is healthy up front?!?!?!?! Rivers was having a field day out there.

    other topics....

The play calling on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball seem very suspect. They don't seem cleaver, poorly designed and are all together amateur-ish.

The Brady injury, coupled with the Super Bowl loss, must had killed any hope in that locker room. Its all lip service now, but hopefully things can happen with the number of games on the schedule.

Mike also made a huge error.. In 05 the pats wore silver uniforms, while the chargers wore the dark blue uniforms not the powder blues:mad:

As I said in another thread - similar play in the Colts game this past weekend. Wayne beats his defender on a deep route, Manning's pass is not out ahead of him where it needs to be, Wayne does exactly what Moss did. He slowed, put his body between the defender and the ball, and did not raise his hands until the last second possible. Unlike Jammer, the Ravens defender never reacted at all. Wayne made the catch, Moss didn't. Wayne was praised for his play, Moss is dogging it for not jumping. Both players did exactly the same thing.

Is this about preconcived notions about Moss and not reality?
