I know the Whiskey Rebellion. I have a relative who wrote a book on it. It had nothing to do with the right to bear arms. It had everything to do with The Federal Govt imposing a TAX. You'll also note that it was because of the Whiskey Rebellion that they updated the Militia Act in 1795.
It doesn't matter what Washington did. The point is that from DAY 1, our Founding Fathers wanted us to keep our firearms. They wanted this because they'd just finished a War with what they deemed to be a Tyrannical Govt.
“The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.” - Samuel Adams
“The people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them.” -Zachariah Johnson, Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 25, 1788
“The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed.” -Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers p. 184-B.
"Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of." - James Madison, Federalist No. 46, January 29, 1788
“The right of self defense is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.” – St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England, 1803
“A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves...and include all men capable of bearing arms.”
—Senator Richard Henry Lee, 1788, on “militia” in the 2nd Amendment
“To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.”- Sen. Richard Henry Lee
"The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."- Thomas Jefferson, letter to to John Cartwright, 5 June 1824
Bliss v. Commonwealth (1822) and Nunn v. George (1846) also affirmed the individual right to bear arms.
Those are quotes for you from our Founding Fathers on the matter. Feel free to explain how they aren't saying that the people have the individual Right to bear arms. Same with the 2 Court Cases.
