Dear Robert Kraft

Hoping against hope that Mr Kraft releases a strongly worded letter to the press or has another Super Bowl Monday statement that smacks the league in the mouth again when Monday morning rolls around, to defend his franchise and QB.

I'm curious when the punishment will be released for public consumption. Should be quite a pitchfork carrying day for ESPN!

Two separate issues:

Regarding Kraft, for me it's a matter of "BP" and "AP." What he says "Before Penalties" are announced is one thing; it's perfectly possible and even smart that he would be saying one thing in public and be playing hardball behind the scenes. What counts is what he says and does "After Penalties" are announced. He is probably limited by his ownership agreement as to any legal action that he can take, but there is a wide range of what he might be able to do beyond that, ranging from empty rhetoric to supporting an appeal or lawsuit by Brady to much more. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt until we get to that point...but only until we get to that point.

Regarding Brady, it's just speculation until we know what penalties are announced. But, he and Gisele have very deep pockets and can afford to go toe-to-toe with the NFL, supported by the best legal minds in the country, even if Kraft doesn't chip in. Saying anything more than that is pure speculation at this point.

What is not idle speculation, is that this could get very, very ugly, either in terms of the Appeals and Discovery process that Brady might initiate against the League, or, worse, in terms of what Brady might do if he feels that Kraft isn't supporting him adequately. I have a feeling that some tough negotiating is going on this weekend.

!

Huh?
Did you miss what Kraft said?
"we will accept the findings of the report and take the appropriate actions based on those findings as well as any discipline levied by the league"

After saying that, what can he now say? "I'm Emily Latella! Never mind!!!"

With nary a day's forethought, Bob prematurely ejaculated his total submission to the league.
Pathetic.

I am most worried that Brady MAY feel that Bob Kraft is not sufficiently supportive.
This could be THE most damaging outcome of this clown show.

It's SO easy in good, successful times to be effusively supportive,
but when the bullets fly, you find out who your friends aren't

I mean specifically involving Tom. And that's why I said hoping against hope that he does something/anything. But I am doubtful.

Read again. Kraft unequivocally accepted the findings and accepted any punishment.
The findings J'Accuse Tom
Show me the "Except for Tom Brady" part.

Why are people here reading plain English and then drawing unsubstantiated conclusions that suit their fantasies about the passive owner?

You don't have to be so pissy. I said HOPE. Something we are still allowed to do. And none of us saw the statement coming the Monday before the Super Bowl which was a week later. But he did it, and I'm hoping he'll but up and do it again.

...and totally contradict himself?

Yeah, THAT will be credible.

Maybe Kraft has a time machine so he can retract his capitulation in 2007 and all the platitudes he said about Goodell and Wells since then in addition to his statement last week.

Heh. Has as much chance of happening as all those "i hope" posts that totally contradict what Kraft plainly said.

Kidding aside I am becoming concerned that Bob is experiencing some form of mental deterioration. With Rice and with the punishment groveling Mr Astute Businessman opened his mouth way too soon and painted himself into corners. Unforced error.
Time for Jonathan to take the reins.

As I said before we need a Churchill not a doddering Chamberlain to take on the Fuhrer. Hopefully Jonathan is that man. Bob can keep on going to the ****tail parties for owners with his escort. I don't begrudge him his pleasure.

This I am on board with. I just don't think Jonathan would have taken this laying down like dad did.

Siefert won it with Walsh's players and Tampa Bay gifted them with Steve Young. So you are comparing Garapalo to a HOF quarterback and whoever is going to win it with BB's players. With you citing the exception, let me cite the rule, unless you do a suck for Luck season, you go down to a period of mediocrity for about a decade or longer. Even HOF coaches like Parcells or Jimmy Johnson couldn't resurrect bad teams.

Glad you brought up the Cowboys.

The Texas sky didn't fall when Jimmy Johnson quit. Barry Sanders rode Dallas on auto pilot to a championship. The fans will stop coming when the team stops winning. Not because Brady got old.

some of the crazies here are no different than the crazies demanding a 1 year suspension for brady and bb

Since when did Barry Sanders play for the Cowboys. Your statement makes no sense as written. You are thinking of Barry Switzer. I agree that the fans will stop coming when the Pats stop winning which is exactly my point. Some of us can remember what the Pats were before BB and Brady in the Booby Grier era and they were not winners. If you think otherwise, just look at the other teams in our division and their record of success.

Meanwhile, Jim Irsay is handcuffed to his bed and had his phone confiscated by his lawyers.

Here's my question, now having time to digest the report and Kraft's response a bit more: Kraft and the Patriots organization is limited in what they can do in response to penalties levied by the Commissioners office. They basically can't do anything. Kraft's blanket statement of "we will accept the findings of the report...", therefore, sounds like he's speaking as NFL owner Robert Kraft, unable to do anything related to penalties against the Patriots, right? That's my interpretation at least.

What's his recourse in defending Brady and any possible appeal/lawsuit that Brady and Yee would like to pursue? Again, as NFL owner he's pretty removed from Brady's response, he can certainly provide legal council and money for Brady but beyond that what can Kraft possibly do?

The more I've read Kraft's response the more I've felt that he really couldn't have gone any further than where he went. MAYBE he could have specifically mentioned Brady and allegations against him, I guess he could have gone there...but then didn't he do that with blanket statements about his disappointment in the contents and bias of the report?

I don't know, I think Kraft is playing this the right way to be honest, and hopefully we'll see some more from him once any penalties are handed down.

The only difference between his handling of this fiasco and the Camera placement incident in 2007 is that he hasn't called Brady a schmuck yet. We all know how well the aftermath of that went.

Dear Robert Kraft,

If you ever say another word supporting Goodell or are seen being buddy-buddy with him in some picture or at some event, you need to be declared non compos mentis and have Jonathan take over immediately.
