What makes you think he is or he isn't? The question should be asked.I'm trying to understand how Fleener is considered 1st round talent?

With all the deficiencies in the New England Patriots defense, selecting a tight end in the first round makes no sense whatsoever. If Fleener fell to 32 would the Patriots have a look?
So did taking 2 Running Backs and a Quarterback within the first 3 rounds in 2011. However, after closer inspection, it made perfect sense. With all the deficiencies in the New England Patriots defense, selecting a tight end in the first round makes no sense whatsoever.
Oh really? The two running backs and the quarterback selected in the 2011 NFL Draft did not contribute whatsoever in the AFC Championship Game nor the Super Bowl.So did taking 2 Running Backs and a Quarterback within the first 3 rounds in 2011. A typical overreaction to an unforeseen injury. The lack of offensive diversification contributed to the loss; wide receivers Deion Branch and Chad Ochostinko did not pick up the offensive slack in the New England Patriots pass offense. In addition, the offensive game plan required a far greater involvement of the running backs in the rushing and passing attack. The two Tight End centric offense didn't function so well with 1 Tight End healthy in the Superbowl did it?

Yeah, because if time has proven anything it's that I constantly overreact to everything Patriots.Oh really? The two running backs and the quarterback selected in the 2011 NFL Draft did not contribute whatsoever in the AFC Championship Game nor the Super Bowl.

No Deus, you're wrong. It made perfect sense in retrospect. Ridley improved as the season progressed and whilst I would have liked to have seen him integrated into the playoff picture, I understand why the Patriots went with Green-Ellis and Woodhead.Taking 2 running backs and a QB in last year's draft made no sense at the time.

I don't have an opinion on Vereen & Mallett in terms of game day contributions.

Again, I'm going to meet you with a simple comment, you're wrong Deus. Whilst you're busy addressing the now, BB is addressing the future. No, it doesn't make sense in retrospect. Taking one running back and zero quarterbacks that high would have made sense.

I think BB will trade the 27th pick for a mint condition, 1951 Studebaker Commander on the assumption that it is a classic and he will be able to flip it for a top five pick in 2013. :rocker:
Just a point of information. In all the times the Pats have had two 1st round draft picks, Belichick has never traded away the higher of the two. Just a tidbit from War Room.
Quality corners are the most difficult positions to fill in draft so you have to take a top flight one if he becomes available. And corners seems to get injured a lot on the Patriots so CB depth is desperately needed. The Patriots also need help at free safety but again it might be best to fill that with a one of our existing corners (McCourty) or draft tall CB.
I possibly foresee the New England Patriots shifting back to the 3-4 defense and the New England Patriots have only five non-concussed defensive lineman on the roster:
Wilfork
Love
Brace
Deaderick
Pryor
It's also time to move away from the ancient dinosaurs that once roamed the fields, whose pass rushing abilities are a distant memory: Shaun Ellis, Gerard Warren, Marcus Stroud
