    #3 Jersey

    Mike Reiss says one thing:

Albert Breer says something quite different:

Please note I am not trying to bash Dillon here. At this point, if he wants to play for another team, that's OK in my book--but I could understand if the Pats wanted something in return, as well (somehow an extra $3M cap hit doesn't count as "compensation").

Basically his agent is trying to get the Jets to dish out a two year deal.

He's paid in full in my book. He can do whatever he wants.

I think the retirement idea might be a good thing, though. It was brutal what he put himself through in 2005.

He goes with my well wishes whatever he decides - though AFC East colors would earn a quick dead to me note!

Something is up. In one story he's trying to diminish the pounding on his body, but in another he thinks ~150 carries a year is too few for him.

Who knows what is going on at the Razor with this. Hopefully all parties can resolve this to where Dillon comes back in a limited role, as cutting him seems to be no good to us personnel or cap wise, and if he's serious about being able to walk in 10 years...

Dillon locked up 2004 SB for NE. Whatever floats his boat is fine with me.

    Rampant Speculation

I am guessing that Dillon has a ~$3M option bonus due soon, and the Patriots (correctly) have no intention of paying it.

This announcement means that, unlike last year, the Pats and Dillon were unable to work out an alternative arrangement.

If the option bonus is not due at the start of the free agent signing period, then obviously Dillon would like the Pats to release him early.

I imagine that Dillon would play another season for the right kind of money ($4M+ ?), but would retire if he could only get the kind of money that the Pats were offering him.

It depends how the contract is structured but if he got a signing bonus for a 4 year contract and wants out after two . . . he's not paid the Patriots in full. It was a weird contract though, it may be more complicated that that.

Hey, Patriots-80. I get a little stressed out just starting grad school and new job. Sorry i got a little carried away with the Chad Jackson thing.

Of course the guy had some source, he just got his story a little exaggerated.

Even though ACLs will heal, skill position players don't get all their speed back for 1 1/2-2 years.

    I guess I think I'm a lawyer sometimes. LOL:D

Maybe he wants some yards to add to his HOF totals.

We do need to build around Maroney. I'm not one for the individual awards but I've seen them all from Jim Brown on and Dillon's a Hall of Famer to me.

I don't usually get wound up on the boards, but when I do I like to make it right.

Nothing worse, to me, than taking yourself seriously on an anonymous message board.

Either way, I appreciate Corey Dillon, what he did, and the fact that this will free up cap space.

I agree. I got wound up against Triple Option a week or so, and made it right as well. And I also agree that it's only a MB, its all for fun and entertainment. :D

Really? This presumption that the Jets are going to be the Patriots' retirement home is tiring. I would think if they were following a "model" they would draft. Don't you?

We've all seen what happens when you blur the line between reality and Message board stardom.

Speaking of getting oneself worked up on a MB, I glanced at the front page and noticed our newest member is "disperados." :D That's an interesting name.
