Do you realize you’ve identified the team’s exact problem against the best competition? This is the problematic philosophy that’s baked into the two Js DNA and why they’re forcing stupid iso last second misses, and having Tatum dribble the ball off his foot, when they have two of the league’s best playmakers standing in the corners doing nothing. How many times did we see this against the Heat, Warriors, etc in past seasons and glimpses of it whenever they’ve been challenged this season (Denver, Minnesota)? That’s the point. Your numbers don’t consider that games have different moments (the most important ones) that require a higher caliber of player. You need someone who can make plays, make their own points and play lock down defense. Brown does those things which makes him way more valuable than a lesser player who simply stays out of the way.
No, the team needs to move the ball. The team needs to find the open man who takes the high percentage shot. The team needs to run the offense through Derrick White or Jrue Holiday. They do not need triple spin moves and fade-aways from Tatum and Brown. And theoretically Hauser serves the exact same purpose on any possession. He spaces the floor and if his man leaves him open he’s a deadly 3 pt shooter. 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, 4th quarter. It’s the same.
