Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Really wished I hadn't watched that game

Derrick White is the Celtics best player. Sorry if you all can’t understand why. I can, which is why I bet money on the Hawks tonight when I saw he was out.

3-3 without him. Losses to Atlanta (down 3 starters including Young) and Charlotte. Easily their two worst losses of the season by opponent.

The Celtics have no leadership or poise with J&J “leading” them, story of their careers, despite their immense talent.

Brown’s 3 point attempt illustrates everything wrong with him. Hawks broadcasters were stunned, dumbfounded at what a stupid, low percentage shot he took in that situation.

Tatum and Brown gave the Hawks 4 free throws down the stretch. Typical low basketball IQ from both of them at end of games. That’s exactly the type of stuff that doesn’t show up in point totals and scoring averages but changes outcomes of games.

Both needed to play point guard too even with Pritchard on the court. Hilarious.

Everyone knew they were gonna lose when the lead started slipping. That’s the White factor (most clutch, poised player on the team) combined with the J&J factor (moronic, panic stricken hero ball, zero leadership.)

Holiday being out tonight also hurt obviously but White is clearly the team’s MVP and should be All NBA.

I hope Mazzula is reaming their asses out tonight because they deserve it.

It’s the same problem they've always had. This is what they’ve always been. White and Holiday just mask the issue with outstanding leadership and playmaking. Teams just need to get into a dogfight with them and put pressure on them, and Tatum and Brown implode 9 times out of 10.

Can't argue with most of that.
I've been yelling for 2 years now- tge C's biggest weakness is crunch time.
They need to let their point guards take charge especially last 3 minutes of games. Really doesn't matter if that's DWhite,Jrue or Pritchard. They're all capable. But no f'n way should Tatum or Brown handle the rock until the ball is past half court. This is basic f'n basketball. All 3 point guards will get you in the right f'n play. Especially White.
This dumbass hero ball at end of games will be their downfall.
Chrissake Joe, lay down the law.
I know all these guys, wanna win a championship. Damn, Tatum and Brown been around awhile. You know that's their #1 goal. But they don't know how,Joe. You gotta tell em.
Point guards need the ball last 3 min utes. Not you Jayson, not you Jaylen.
They will get you the ball in a spot where you can do something positive with it.

I gotta go to sleep. This **** just pissin me off

Porzingis zero touches in last five minutes

Pritchard is the guy who was playing at similar level to White (Eastern Conference Player of the Week) but got jettisoned at point guard in favor of the two starrrz. Was literally put out to stand in the corner as a wing while Brown and Tatum made laughable decisions all game. Unreal.

I didn't watch the game but this **** is BRUTAL

There are zero signs of these guys changing. They better hope the 3's fall enough that they can win 4 games in each series by 20+
Inexcusable

Tatum Brown Porzingis and Mazulla.
C's lost because of those 4.
Tatum Brown and Porzingis killed us with horrible turnovers and too much one on one stupid basketball.
I'm pissed off right now.
A lot of issues tonight. Tatum had a terrible turnover, Brown with a bad iso, Porzingis was soft and passive.

But it’s more than that. The biggest issue was missing our hall handlers. No way that happens with Jrue/White out there, IMO. We needed our guards to calm things down and give us their elite defense. I wouldn’t have been as pissed if this was a close game throughout considering that but to choke away a 30 point lead is something else.

Mazzula is also culpable. I think Hauser should’ve been used more. Why not start the second half with the same lineup you used in the first? It quickly went to **** with bad defense and Pritchard’s limitations did show. I understand why Joe experimented with Springer instead of Hauser at the end and it kinda worked on defense but I think I’d have preferred to have Hauser’s shooting.

Ugly night for sure.

Joe finally put Springer in during the 4th to stop the ball. Not sure why it took all game for Joe to pressure the ball handler. This loss is definitely old habits, which is very disappointing, but Joe has to take a lot of blame. No D White and no J Holiday and Joe does not play a point guard to defend?

Do we have a fourth point guard who is playable? Btw I did like Springer. Got called for the fouls but the Hawks offense definitely slowed down when he was out there. I just wish he could shoot a little better and he could get more minutes.

He can not shoot which is disappointing, but if Springer was there for the whole second half the Celtics do not lose that game.

They didn’t start Hauser in the second half because they realized how stupid it was to have a lineup without a point guard, which was becoming apparent towards the end of the first half even though they still build a big lead from the sheer talent mismatch.

Starting Tatum at point and not starting Piritchard just tells me Mazulla is part of the problem. He actually thinks Tatum can play point.

I’ve been saying they should start Hauser but that’s literally the worst lineup to put him in, without a point guard to looking to dish to wings.

Also it’s becoming apparent Porzingis, White, Holiday, and others aren’t really “soft and passive” down the stretch of games. J&J take the ball up and clear out the offense to dribble. Soft and passive is the result of ****ty leadership and coaching. It’s quite easy to get Porzingis involved in the final minutes. Run the goddamn offense.

Watch Brown on that possession.

-Dribbles it up like he’s point guard. Worst dribbler on team. Worst court vision on team.

-Tatum fakes a cut and then Porzingis fakes a screen to him. Tatum then screen’s Porzingis’s man. Porzingis moves to top of the key for the ball.

-Brown looks him off.

-Tatum then breaks for the ball.

Brown looks him off.

-Porzingis then sets an on ball screen for Brown looking the pick and roll. Porzingis is open in a a favorable position near foul line for either a high percentage jump shot or if they collapse could kick back out.

-Brown looks him off.

-Brown takes a moronic off balance, contested 3 pointer.

Oh by the way Mr. Shooting Specialist is the worst 3 point shooter on the team among regulars and worst free throw shooter on the team among regulars.

He absolutely made a difference, they slowed down. Overall we couldn’t find our offense at that point though

With a 30 point lead, not much of an offense is needed to win. Just a defense. The only way to lose is to go cold, and for the opponent to get hot, from the 3 point line. Simply play defense at the 3 point line so the other team does not get in a 3 point rhythm. Not having a point guard, especially with a defensive point guard specialist like Springer available, on the floor was a huge coaching failure. And Springer could have used the playing time while others could have rested. I like Mazzulla, but he was really bad in that game.
