Just the market these days. Something everyone needs to get used to.
Unfortunatley you might be right.
Just did the math and it comes out to about 2% of the cap space.
Well i was wrong.
The Pats have a long history under Belichick and Pioli for over paying for roll players and mid-roster guys. Look at Jarvis Green's deal. I think James has little to do with Samuel. He could be insurance, but he is more likely depth.

2.7mm according to shefter, thats not cheap, could be the beginning of something with samuel
Overpaying? For Jarvis Green? People just dont get it! The Pats EXCEL at carrying that second teir player for depth. Very few "superstars" but a roster loaded with capable starters from 1-53!
Deal is only for $1.35 mil plus incentives.
Good signing. Low priced, one year deal for a player who fits our style of play. He can start if he has to, but will most likely be depth. Could be one of those guys like Roman Phifer who gets labelled as "lost a step" or "done" who is productive in our system. Then again, he could be a lower risk version of Duane Stark (I bit my tongue when I said that).
James started all 16 games for the Bengals in 2006 and had 41 tackles, four interceptions and 10 passes defensed

As much as we all dislike Starks, don't forget he attempted to play with a bad leg and a bad shoulder... If he simply said I 'm injured and went on IR we wouldn't have liked it, but when he came back the following year, he might have been reasonably useful.
