They need to update Manning's playoff record.

    Top 5 for sure

Nobody that still plays can be declared GOAT. Unless Brady wins another 2-3 SB he doesn't deserve the title during his career.

Wait until everyone is retired. Then debate on

Although if they could have finished out 19-0 (I still cringe at the thought of this) then yeah, I say it's a hard sell on anyone but Brady

Unfortunately our boy hasn't been flawless in some time

Right now, I say Montana is 1 with Brady 2. But there's still time for Tommy to overtake him.

Some time ? Are you on crack ?

    1. 2007 - - lets see SB 42 he leads them to go ahead TD, and only a lucky catch and brickhands Asante take away his 4-4 SB record
    2. 2008 - - out injured all year after barely playing one quarter for the season
    3. 2009 - - recovers to comeback and play at a high level. Yes, an up and down year,

but to call him "hasn't been flawless in some time" is beyond idiotic

Please try and step back from being a Pats fan and look at things logically.

He's phenomenal but he hasn't won a SB since 2004 (STOP RIGHT THERE)

I don't want to here but he did this, or his defense let him down or he led the team to what could have been the game winning drive.

20 years from now nobody is going to say it could have been more, they will just look at what is.

16-0, 50TDs, 23TDs for Moss, offensive scoring record, those are all legitimate accomplishments for this team. If it didn't have other rings this decade, sure, it'd be hollow. But it's time for us all to let go of how the SB ended, and move on. 2007 was as successful a season can be without a ring. The team did something no other team in history has done, which is win all 16 games. If anything, the Colts cowardice should make us feel even better about the achievement.

The Patriots have nothing to be ashamed of for SB 42. There weren't a lot of possessions in that game, and really, both sides of the ball did the job needed to win the game, the Giants just made ONE play. And that one play - as often is the case in a Super Bowl - was the difference. The Giants get paid to play this game, too. Time to move on. I look back at 2007 as a success now more than ever for this team and for Brady and Belichick's legacy. The Colts game gave us some needed closure on this decade.

I didn't say there was a legitimate argument against Tom Brady as greatest of the decade. It's not even close

However when you look back at his career, unless he win another 1 or 2 then he will fall short of QBs that came before him

    Two things about this:

    1) You're right, there's no reason to think Brady is declining given his injury.

    2) Not calling someone "flawless" shouldn't be a slight (even if it was intended to be one in this case). We need to stop expecting our athletes to be perfect, no matter who they are.

    Disable Jersey

The only player that Brady needs more rings to pass in the public eye is Montana. Nobody outside of Pittsburgh fandom has Bradshaw at the very top of the QB pyramid.

    ok

Who has a stronger hold on the GOAT title than Montana?

My point was that Manning losing didn't swing the title back to Brady. It was stupid of the media to attempt to hand it to Manning anyway.

    No Jersey Selected

I don't believe I'm alone in saying this, but yes it did. In an earlier thread debating the topic I was ready to concede Peyton the better QB if he won this SB because it had appeared he has gotten better with time, BUT after watching Manning sling that throw into the arms of Porter and the sour grapes look on his face reassured me that Brady IS the best QB in the league and of this decade. Is he the GOAT? Come see me in 10 more years and we'll debate.

By title I meant greatest of all time. The media trying to hand it to Manning was stupid but Brady isn't the GOAT unless he wins another one at least

Brady is the best of the decade without question though. It's not even something worth arguing

    To me:

Greatest of the salary cap era = greatest of all-time.

Now that, is an interesting twist to the argument

Should the media decide to raise Brady up and declare him the GOAT I won't be complaining. I just think to cement his name in that position he needs another SB

    #12 Jersey

when are people going to realize that the title of GOAT carries no significance? all that matters are team TITLES. people who are Tom Brady fans but don't care for the team should should not post here (not directed to the op at all but in general). this is not a tom brady forum but a patriots forum.

with that said, it's too difficult to gauge who will be the GOAT. Montana won 4 titles in an era where there were no rules designed to protect the qb or receiver. plus no pass interference calls either. dan marino had NO receivers to throw to. John Elway had NO running game or receivers for many years. Can we simply insert brady into the old 49ers offense and expect him to win 5 titles? it's just too complicated.

and what about drew brees? his numbers or similar to Tom's, but what if he wins 2 more titles? does that make him GOAT?

The only QB he has have fallen short of at this point is Montana. 3 rings + 16-0 + TD record puts him in the top 3-5, without question, already.

He'll need a 4th to be alongside Montana. Having lost a Super Bowl - while acknowledging he put the team in a position that should've been a sure win - is something Montana never did, so Brady would need a 5th to pass Montana.

But now we're getting ahead of ourselves.
