Early struggles for Carpenter, not unusual for a 3-4 LB. Definitely a lesson in caution when drafting 3-4 ILBs in rd 1, sometimes they take time to mature. from Dan Pompei (take it for what it's worth):
"Cowboys first-round pick Bobby Carpenter has been an early disappointment, in part because he hasn't fit the scheme as well as the Cowboys thought he would. Carpenter started out as an inside linebacker in Mike Zimmer's 3-4 defense. He recently was tried as an outside linebacker. Now he has been moved back inside. In the meantime, he was left on the inactive list for three games and lost confidence. Carpenter (6-2, 255) might be a man without a position. Some think he's too short and not quick enough to be an effective pass rusher at outside linebacker, and he might lack the cover skills to be a three-down inside linebacker. Cowboys coaches still believe in his ability, but they need to find a way to get it out of him." http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_y...g=insidedishbearshesterwor&prov=tsn&type=lgns

So far I'm still OK with the Maroney pick.
