But those are longevity stats! You need to normalize for that. I did a seasonal normalization for GWD's; Tom Brady ends up 28th lifetime. Joe Montana 60th! What do you make of that?

Mahomes doesn't get many either because these 3 have the 3 highest winning pcts in modern history. Look at GWD/loss ratio.

Patrick Mahomes, who is great, has played a total of 14 - and is 11-3 - in playoff games. Not even top ten in total wins but tied with HOFer Troy Aikman. So there's no reason to take anything away from Mahomes.

Brady is 35-13 in the playoffs. No need to elaborate.

Mahomes has won 78% of his playoff games to 73% by Brady. Extraordinary for both. Joe Montana won 70% of his playoff games.

But when you look at the top twenty QBs in playoff wins, you see a lot of guys in 60% to 70% range with notable exceptions Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers who made the playoffs a lot but struggled to win consistently at the level of Mahomes and Brady.

The bottom line is, there is absolutely no need to cherry pick Brady's stats. Mahomes and Brady both had extraordinary success in their early careers. Celebrate that and move on.

Long read about BOB, Mac and the offense.

Which Bill O’Brien did Bill Belichick hire?
Mac Jones 25th in the league in play value and looked lost. Patricia clueless as the leader of the offense that he was implementing. Joe Judge, a man who 'coached' the Giants to back to back 31st offensive ratings a disaster as QB coach. Well this just recaps what we already know.

The main question is can BOB turn this around. Mac complained that he wasn't coached hard enough. BOB is exactly the in your face offensive coordinator who will coach you hard. So careful what you ask for Mac. Can you handle the criticism and the 'hard coaching'?

The Patriots still have a ton of questions. Left tackle - can Trent Brown rebound? Is he washed or was it just the dumbass scheme that Patricia implemented that made him look bad. Mac Jones - is he the talent level that many pundits claimed he was, ie bottom of the barrel, or are there more layers to the onion? Can he dig deep and become a better player in year 3? Also who takes over in the WR group that has at best a bunch of a generic second option players? Can a bunch of #2-#5 receivers prosper in the new BOB system or does the lack of top end talent, a gamebreaker mean this offense can't get off the ground once it encounters a true top 10 NFL defense?

Last but not least, the article emphasizes that O'Brien loves to utilize an empty set. For mobile quarterbacks this is a great system because it presents more offensive options and allows the QB to just make a play if the opportunity presents itself. The downside is there's 'no place to hide'. Mac Jones isn't a great runner of the football, he has pretty poor instincts and elusiveness. If the play breaks down, more likely than not he's going to take a loss. So is this offensive style going to work with Mac Jones or will we need to switch to a QB who is more athletic, a better runner of the football, and more comfortable with making throws on the run?

Sharing what I think is a pertinent excerpt from The Atheltic's (paywalled) Steve Buckley article this morning (7/18/23) titled, "Buckley: Pats believed DeAndre Hopkins could help Mac Jones...before they saw price tag":

The problem with evaluating the 2022 Mac Jones and forecasting the 2023 Mac Jones is having to dig through 500 feet of muck that doesn’t have a whole lot to do with actual football. As in:

• Jones was criticized last year because he displayed too much agony after suffering a high ankle sprain.

• He was criticized for the sideline tantrums.

• It was said that he was doing too much late-night advice-seeking with old Bama people.

• Now there’s this thing about him being too close to Robert Kraft, or, at the least, closer than Belichick is with the owner of the Patriots.

All of these not-really-about-football criticisms can be brushed away in four sentences. Let’s go to the lightning round:

• It’s foolish to gauge someone else’s pain threshold while you’re sitting on a couch.

• The sainted Tom Brady holds the franchise record for sideline tantrums.

• The guessing here is that 99 percent of NFL players dial up Dear Ol’ State U now and then when they need a pep talk or a cellular hug.

• History has shown that the owners of NFL teams would rather pose for pictures with the dreamy quarterback than with the rumpled coach.

My thoughts Mac Jones will in 2023-24 be baby sat, not allowed to run not throw the long ball consistently. Mac has a slow release, so he has to have time in the pocket to throw long passes, he doesn't get enough time from the OL. When I say baby sat I mean he will be throwing short passes over the line as he did in his rookie year and he stats will look terrific but he is not a franchise QB. Ad least not now, and with the tough Pats schedule and the improved AFL East all 3 teams be won't have time to do more than short passes to move the ball forward along with running plays.

The funny thing is, we were okay with paying Jonnu/Agholor $12million and Hopkins is MUCH more talented than them. and when you look at a #1 receiver now costing $20-25million well $12million and $3million incentives is a STEAL for Hopkins.

I think a factor in the Hops decision was the 2024 season. I think we decided to hold back $$$ to extend some guys instead. It is a make or break season for Jones, IMO….and we need to play it out ti see what we have on the roster. Right now, do we even have any potential pro bowlers outside of Slater, Judon, Dugger, Stevenson, and Onwenu? How about all pros? Maybe Judon? We need young and ascending players….

A lot of self-congratulatory jibberish here. I've not yet read the article, but, gosh, I sure hope I'm smart enough to understand it.

Cowherd heard something about Kermit and it's not great. He is 0-2 against Brady in games that matter and can't do a thing about it. That's a shame.
