Would you like a weekly post-game thread strictly for X and O's talk only?

There is one particular play that I would love to see broken down by people in the know was in Mac's backshoulder pass to Boutte in the 3rd quarter with 14:00 minutes remaining on the clock. Seemed like a bad decision on 3rd down when it appeared he had two open crossers right in front of him, especially if he went with the one going to his right.
The tough part in breaking down a play like that is knowing the QBs read and progressions. It’s not like he sits back and looks at all the receivers and picks the one he likes best. Coverage dictates his progressions and when a progression is open you throw. A later progression could be wide open but by the design and execution of the play the qb would never know.

Anyone interested in a weekly post-game X's and O's thread? This thread would be strictly X's and O's talk, no criticizing (so and so sucked), no up and down, and no drama. There's the post-game thread for everything else.

Will start if there is overwhelming response/interest.
Start the *****. No reason for polls sir! As usual I will join when I have the time to really do a breakdown.

Sure. The people who contributed nothing outside of Chatham tweets to this thread in the past don’t come around anymore.
Yeah I'm trying to remember the poster that was always standoffish and would be all up in arms about the thread. I remember him calling me out once in the thread cause I gave a generic take on a play. And then when I got annoyed and actually broke the play down, I was surprised by his actual lack of football knowledge given his bravado.

I mean I pointed out some things that should be fairly basic to anyone with some football background especially coaching.

@luuked.

I don’t mind a difference in opinion when it comes to X’s and O’s, but Chatham is a **** who has been wrong about the state of the team, especially post-Brady, more times than I can count on 20 hands. I remember in 2019 and 2020, he used to mock the people who said we needed more from the skill positions then, when challenged, pulled an appeal to authority in which he made himself the authority. You’ll remember that one year later, Bill completely revamped the skill positions. The only thing he’s an authority on is smoking meats.

It’s not his breakdown of the film I disagree with. It’s how much of a **** he is even after being proven wrong.
Just a thought about your comment about not adding WR's. Just off the top of my head I thought the Pats went out of their way to help Brady with WR's in 18 and 19. They spent a first rounder for Cook. They drafted a WR in the first round for the first time in almost 25 years and NEVER by Bill. They brought in Crazy Brown. They overpaid for Sanu. They can be blamed because Harry didn't work out, but who know Brown would implode after one game or Sanu would get hurt after one game. The point is contrary your remark, they seemed to have tried to add WR's and tried pretty hard.

You want to complain about only Cooks working out, OK, and that was for just a 2 years (not value a first imo.......well maybe a lombari makes it worth it.) But you CANNOT say they didn't try

I think we are on two different pages. I was talking about Chatham blaming Brady for the offensive struggles in 2019 instead of the “weaponz.” Then, he did the same thing with Cam in 2020, only for the team to completely revamp the skill positions in 2021. He was **** about it the entire time. For someone who played the game at the pro level and fancies himself as an “authority,” Chatham sure doesn’t seem to know WTF is going on at any given time on the field. Bird Boy Lazar is better when it comes to the what and the how of film breakdown, but is frequently off when analyzing “why.”

C'mon K, Chatham tries hard and I like some of the stuff he does. It's like all the x's and o's guys, a lot of what they do is subjective. It's up to us to look at the play and make our own interpretation of what we are seeing. You'd be amazed at all the times we'd be looking at film as a staff and spend 15 minutes on ONE play and have 3 guys all seeing different things out of the same play.

I always listen to how they use a play to make a point. Most of the time I agree because....there it is right in front of you. But sometimes you can see the possibility of another interpretation.

BTW- a RESOUNDING yes from me. Any time you offer me play clips (especially all 22's) you become my lifelong friend.
I’ve always appreciated Chatham’s unique insight as an NFL player with the Patriots. I understand some fan posters feel they know the game far more than former players…but IMO that’s just delusional. Former players in general know more about the game then Monday morning QB’s.

This is an example of what will NOT be allowed in the X's and O's threads.

I understand K. Looking back on it, I think I was just using your post to repeat a pet peeve of mine. That is when some fans say that the Pats didn't help Brady at the end of his stay here. That is simply fake news.

Again I can see why Chatham can piss someone off. He does come off and pompous and self important. We disagree with the value of his breakdowns. See ya next time.

That’s an interesting thought. So you think Jamarcus Russell knows more than you do about the game? I highly doubt it. How about someone that coached or coaches football?

Rookies are more than welcome to participate and ask any questions.

Hiding behind false humility can work on the internet, but not in real life. How many women have you gotten pregnant recently?
Not enough. It was the youngest’s birthday on Tuesday. Can’t believe she’s already 1. I’ll share some pics.

No I was going to say N’Keal Harry.

Coverage dictates his progressions and when a progression is open you throw. A later progression could be wide open but by the design and execution of the play the qb would never know.

There’s also other subtle things in play. For example the analyst zooms in on the receiver showing he had a few yards of “separation”, but often that’s because a split second earlier, the cornerback saw the QB was throwing a different target or had turned in the other direction. These plays happen in like 2-3 seconds and the players are reflexive. It’s very hard to interpret things even though the “ball is still in the QBs hands.”
