ALL-BB Patriots Team

Interesting, intelligent thread... but I would pick McCourty over Milloy at Safety and think about Gostowski over Vinateri... primarily as he has longer range.

The difficulty in all of this are there are so many choices as BB has built this team for the long haul, instead of just renting players..

Steve Neal would be in any Pats all time or single season team in the BB era. We still haven't replaced him.

Good idea Andy and a good job by you and others. However i wonder if you should take it a step further and turn it into full blown Elect an All Time Belichick Team series of threads starting with nominations for each position and then public voting until you have a full PF.Com team.

I agree. I also think the defense should be a 3-4... since that was the defensive formation from the glory years.

KR Ellis Hobbs

I'd go with Hobbs over Bethel mostly because I liked the way Ellis took it straight up the field on every return. Statistically their best season was virtually the same 28.5 vs 28.2.

HOBBS
KR YDS TDS LG AVG
15 361 0 37 24.1
10 360 1 93 36
35 911 1 108 26
45 1281 1 95 28.5

BETHEL
KR YDS TDS LG AVG
30 847 1 92 28.2
41 1016 1 93 24.8
31 694 0 54 22.4

You should add best OC

think about Gostowski over Vinateri... primarily as he has longer range.

I would take Vinatieri because his peak was the 2001 post season and that is hard to top for maybe any kicker.

If we were talking their career during the BB era, it is a lot closer discussion. It is almost hard to believe but Gostkowski has been here 8 years now, longer than Adam kicked for BB and is approaching the 10 total years Adam spent in NE.

nem??????????

No.
I would prolly pic McDaniels of 07 or BOB of 10, but I don't know nearly enough about football to accurately judge such a thing.

one name no one is mentioning is Brian Waters. At RG he was an absolute beast the year he played

Rosevelt Colvin needs to be on that list somewhere.

Obviously fullback isn't one of the most critical positions, but I think Patrick Pass was a major exclusion based on the criteria.

Pass also had to switch positions to contribute, adding 35 pounds to bulk up to play fullback. He was a solid role player in the 2004 championship team, and 2005 was his best season. Below, a comparison of the 3 and their best season under BB:

Patrick Pass 2005 season
54 rushes, 245 yards, 4.5 YPC, 3 TDs
22 catches, 227 yards, 10.3 YPC
77 touches, 472 total yards from scrimmage, 3 TDs

Heath Evans 2005 season
51 rushes, 192 yards, 3.8 YPC
10 catches, 88 yards, 8.8 YPC
61 touches, 280 total yards from scrimmage

Marc Edwards 2001 season
51 rushes, 141 yards, 2.8 YPC, 1 TD
25 catches, 166 yards, 6.6 YPC, 2 TDs
76 touches, 307 total yards from scrimmage, 3 TDs

Interesting discussion. I'm inclined to take Eugene Wilson at safety over Milloy. If we're going to distinguish between 43 DT and 34 DE, we should distinguish between the free safety and strong safety (despite what Bill says about right and left safeties on this year's team, as we'd be in trouble fielding a team with Rodney and Lawyer trading duties at the back-end of the defense). I'd also lean toward picking a 2nd TE over a FB, as that offense had better years than the 2-back sets (as did the 3WR offense). I wouldn't take the accused onto my team, so Mr. Graham gete the nod, and Gronk gets to be the biggest move-TE it the history of the NFL.

While we're building an all BB team, how about some love for the STers.

Gunner - Slater
PP - Izzo (at least I think he held down this role for a few years - wherever he played, he deserves a spot on the list)
(No, I'm not going to nominate a LS.)

Faulk had a lot of kick-returning success in 2002. I never understood why it didn't last.
