So, with all the discussion on the rookie's struggles last game, I decided to have a look at the all 22 film of KT's 8 targets to see if the criticism is valid. Certainly Dobson had a tough time of it with his drops, but KT's targets show alot of potential if he and Brady can get on the same page.

It also showed how gawd awful the Jets safeties were on deep balls. Kt could have had 3 TDs.

Brady incomplete, left. Pass interference on Cromartie. Brady expected KT to go deep on the play, he turned the route into an out. Cromartie got called for grabbing his jersey. Given the coverage, KT should have gone deep on the play.

Incidentally, the exact opposite happened on the second target.

Brady incomplete right. KT was the last read on the play and had the corner beat with no safety in sight. He had his hand up signalling his intention. Brady, feeling rushed in the pocket threw the out.

Screen complete for 9 yards. A patriots staple. Good blocking and good execution

Brady deep for 38 yards. Again, safety is slow to come over. KT hesitated for half a second which forced him to try and catch up to the ball, leading him out of bounds. Without that hesitation, it was a possible TD.

Brady to the endzone. We all saw this one. Soooo close.

Brady incomplete. This is the one that hit him in the breadbasket. Good route, just a drop.

Slant incomplete. KT was the first read on the play. Given the inside coverage on this play, it was not Brady's best option. KT was forced to run it flat and it went incomplete.

Crossing route incomplete. Brady flushed in the pocket, looking for an outlet. KT coming across the middle. Brady expected him to sit. KT continued to go across the field. Given the coverage, KT had alot of space to run if Brady hit him in stride.

So, from what i could see, there is a ton of potential if Brady and KT could get on the same page. And there is plenty of blame to go around. Both Brady and KT could have read coverage better and executed better. But looking at the video, I am excited to see their chemistry develop.

Nice post. Recall they didn't even practice before the game on a short week (just walk-throughs). Gonna be different this week.

    very nice stills and analysis.
So as I count it: 3 bad plays by KT & 2 by TB. More brady fault than expected; but the good wrs make their qbs look better than they are. By us unfortunately most of times it is the other way around.

    1 completion (3)
    2 bad route recognitions/hesitations by KT (1,4)
1 plain drop by KT (6)
    50-50 fault TB/KT (8)
2 bad coverage recognition by TB (2, 7)
1 just plain bad luck (near miss) (5)
[could theoretically count this last as KT bad play for not getting hands UNDER the ball instead of on both sides - but ??

As frustrated as I was watching the offensive ineptitude against the Jets, I was subsequently pleased that Thompkins and Dobson showed they could create separation and beat coverage. They did this multiple times and then dropped the football multiple times.

I'll take the silver lining right now and put it down to the weather and rookie mistakes. Hopefully they'll be better for it.

That second target was a sure TD had Brady had the time. Devlin came across from left to right to block Garret McIntyre (who?) unsuccessively. He pushed Devlin back forcing Brady to throw off his back foot. A better block and an extra second for Brady and he would have hit KT on the route.

That crossing route, it was a poor block by Hooman that allowed McIntyre to pressure Brady.

It appeared that the Oline blocked well. TE and FB blocking, at least on those two plays left alot to be desired.

As I've said to my wife during thursdays game, I'd rather have these issues now than in January, and maybe, February.

    No Jersey Selected

The kids will get better with practice and repetition. I can live with these growing pains as long as it's teaching them something and they're learning from their errors.

If these same issues are prevalent after Thanksgiving, when the good teams start to really separate themselves, then it will be a major issue. I doubt that it'll though. I'm expecting big things out of these boys down the road.

It takes time, as some former players have said they used to watch the game tape with Brady and each would voice what they saw and why they ran that route, Brady would say what he saw and what he thought they should do, after a few sessions of analysis they get to be on the same page.

Thank you for the excellent breakdown and also the analysis that was provided by all involved.

Good stuff, and definite reason for optimism.

He's beaten man coverage pretty regularly. It will be interesting to see how he does on Revis island this week.

I had a look at the all 22 video of the tampa game too. Revis was solid in man coverage. I could see why he was frustrated in zone coverage.

Revis is complaining about playing too much zone. It won't be Revis Island so much as Revis District.

Whether Revis is pissed or not, this game has the potential to be a lot tougher than many here seem to be giving credit for unless we come out much improved.

The Bucs currently have the best red zone defense in the league (after just playing Brees and the Saints last week), having stopped 5/6 of their opponents opportunities. On top of that their defense in general has been pretty efficient just on its own.

The secondary had some significant problems with VJax not only during joint practices, but also in the past. He currently has a ypc average of almost 20 yds this season on 12 catches for 231 yds. Of course we all know about Doug Martin and his potential to take it to the house on any carry, so it will be a test to try and stop the run while also preventing Jackson at the same time.

Most importantly--their backs are definitely against the wall sitting at 0-2 after two really tough losses where they easily could be 1-1 or even 2-0, and both Greg Schiano and Josh Freeman are under the gun so to speak.

We'll need to show up for this game for sure, and if we do then the Pats should be able to handle it, but if there are still some learning curve issues going on and/or the ball bounces the wrong way on a couple occasions it could be another dogfight for sure. I expect Tampa to be playing for its season, as they can't afford to drop to 0-3.
