AFCE contract news: D'Bust signs D'extension

Given the 30% rule how can his 2011 salary remained at $10 million.

the 30% base for Ferguson is $6 million. 30% of $6 million is $1.8 million.

2009 $6 million
2010 $6 million plus $1.8 million = $7.8 million
2011 $7.8 plus $1.8 million = $9.6 million max.

I was under the impression this was an extension.
If they added 6 years starting in 2012, wouldnt the 30% rule for 2011 be irrelevant?

No, an extension is the same as a new contract in the eyes of the league. Whether that extension adds years on and keeps the remaining existing deal in tact (although in this case it can't keep it in tact because it violates the current rules under which the extension is being signed) or is just misconstrued as adding on years (as was the case when Brady signed his 6 year extension with 2 years remaining on his existing deal - basically they tore up that deal and replaced it with a new deal or he'd be signed through 2012. The only thing that remained in tact from his 2002 deal was his existing remaining amortization through 2006 because that never moves unless it's accelerated when a player is cut or traded or retires.

Roethlisberger started 13 (2 less than Mark) & had under 300.

What's your point?

The point is that he threw an inordinately low amount of passes for even a rookie QB. Interestingly, the Steelers that year were similar to the Jets with a smothering defense and a great running game. Roethlisberger had a much better year though.

Too_Stupid back again today and getting pounded like an old rug hung out on a clothesline....

The amount comes from a base salary of $622,500, a signing bonus of $1.6 million due within five days of July 15, 2010, and a roster bonus of $3.1 million due within five days of July 15, 2010.

That's it. No other guarantees trigger unless and until Ferguson makes it through the 2010 season displaying adequate skill and, more importantly, not suffering serious injury.

If Florio's got that right, D'Bust needs to fire D'Agent.

It would appear that Jet management is paying him like the mediocre player we think he is, not the stud the Jet fans think, and D'Bust and his agent agree that is where he belongs.

How do you know that?

Because they said as much on ESPN. That this was an extension. And they didn't mention any signing bonus.. Just guaranteed money. As we both know, they aren't necessarily the same thing.

EDIT: If what florio said was true, then Brad Blank needs to be stripped of his Agent License because that's a horrible deal for Ferguson.

In Tannenbaum we trust. :bricks:

Yup, that's what makes this pretty funny, in hindsight. Looks like the Jets and Brick and his agent all agree with us: that he's at best a 'pretty good' LT, and probably not even that. Epic fail by all the Jets folks trying to convince us that he's elite.

What you inferred from ESPN's report was and is clearly wrong.

Only if you believe Florio, Miguel. And his track record leaves a tremendous amount to be desired.

Show us the NFLPA link and be done with it.

He did say he read the contract though.

His track record of understanding the cap is better than yours.

I must say, thats a great contract for the Jets.

Theyve really covered their you know what. Ferguson has to play lights out and not get injured, or he'll be down the road.

I wouldn't go as far to say I think he is mediocre. I think he is a good LT. Nothing more, nothing less. People make him out to be a great or even elite LT though. It seems from the contract that the Jets think he is good, but not mediocre. It does sugguest they are concerned that Faneca did make him look better than he really was and that with him gone and replaced by a rookie there is at least minor concerns his play will drop to his rookie year level where he truly was a bust.
