    What in a baseball season?

Taking into consideration the physical demands on the O-Line, D-Line, RB's, WR's, DB's, QB's, in a one game basis. Now compare that to the physical demands on a 1st base man, 2nd base man, outfielder, pitcher, catcher, etc.

What would equal a 19 - 0 season in the NFL in MLB?

Are 3 baseball games equal to 1 football game? Are 5 baseball games equal to 1 football game?

If a MLB team went 50 - 0 to start the season, would it equal what the Patriots might accomplish at 19 - 0?

The longest winning streaks in the major leagues since 1900:
    Year Team League Wins
    1916 NYG NL 26*
    1935 ChC NL 21
    2002 Oak. AL 20
    1906 ChW AL 19*
    1947 NYY AL 19
    * Had a tie game during their winning streak

It looks like going 19-0 in MLB is quite the feat!

I do want to point out something that may not be considered by some of you. In baseball, there is a 5 man (4 man in some of those early streaks) so think of it this way: could the Patriots go 19-0 with a Cassell, Brady, Gutierrez rotation?.....Didn't think so.

Ya but like I said, how many baseball games equal the physical demand of 1 football game. Injuries are key in any sport. The more physical the game, the higher the injury rate.

Maybe going undefeated in the playoffs? The only way anything in baseball could be comparable is if it included a World championship, just as this season only means anything with a world championship.

That is a small detail in the physical sport that is the NFL. Brady could be injured on each and every snap. I am not saying one sport is better than the other. I am only trying to figure out what record in MLB would equal 19 - 0 in the NFL.

True, but the opposing teams would be rotating too. Its really just 2 totally different sports. Apples and oranges.

Depends if your the catcher or not. Plus so much hinges on the starting pitcher, it's less a team feat than a matchup streak. If you're talking win streaks, then I suppose it should only happen once or twice in baseball history, like the NFL, so somewhere around 30 wins in a row. If you're talking season, Seattle won 116 in 2001 (I think) so I guess 120 wins in a season would be that rough equivalent, then sweeping the entire playoffs.

    So 19 - 0 in the NFL equals 19 - 0 in MLB?

    I don't think so.

I didn't say that. I said its like comparing apples and oranges and that going 19-0 in MLB is pretty good. That is all...over and out....

I like futility. And trust me, if the Patriots reach perfection next Sunday many will be looking for something to compare it to.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but this conversation is pointless. Football can't be compared to any other sport. It would be like saying what is the NFL equivalent to scoring 215 points in the NHL or what is the NFL equivalent of 21 strikeouts?

Or maybe even the all-time great question...

Can mighty mouse beat up superman?

In football, you get to put your best team out there for every game, barring injuries. In baseball, you can't start Josh Beckett every game. You have to use your 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th starters. So, it is like apples and oranges.

Its not really comparable to baseball. At the very least look at it this way... if the Patriots won 80% of every game (winning all 16 regular season games), in baseball you'd still be looking at 35-40 losses.

In general, it's harder to win games in baseball. Look at the winning percentages of the very best teams. They are .750.

In football, the winning percentages are much higher than that (I'm assuming the best team in football will be wither 13-3 or 14-2 in any given year).

That being said, 19-0 is unparalleled. If the season were 30 games long, would you bet against the Patriots going 30-0?

Or look at the Colorado Rockies. They played perfect baseball for a month. And then pfffft.
