Announcements & advice for those heading to AZ (Mergedx4)

Re: Super Bowl Party Thread

Good to have a general events thread, but just to be clear, there's a STICKY above with all of the info about the events in Arizona. Thanks.

Re: Advice for buying SB XLII tickets

For those that are watching closely, do you think that prices have bottomed out? They were going down until yesterday and seem to have stabilized.

What do you expect to see happen with prices next week? Any chance it falls further?

Anyone have stories about purchasing tickets on gameday from scalpers?

I would be willing to try were it not for the fear of getting fakes.

Re: Super Bowl Party Thread

you just said that the mods may be taking it down

in that case isn't it good to have this thread remain?

Re: Advice for buying SB XLII tickets

Could be that people were expecting a Packers vs Pats showdown and ran up the prices a little...

Even at face value, the tickets are pretty expensive - $ 700 ?
$700 and $900 depending on what you choose is what I was told.

Re: Announcements & advice for those heading to AZ

I'll find out for you and post here. Check in later.

By the way, some of the Mods who continue to hold a huge grudge against NEM now are expressing a problem with this sticky. This, of course, is absurd. The various events being held FOR PATRIOTS FANS at the local NEP Fan Club in Arizona are CERTAINLY (and clearly) relevant to people on this board who are going to the game, and I would hope pertinence and good sense trumps long-held resentments and silly power-trips.

HOWEVER, if for some insane reason this information gets taken down, please contact me at [email protected] and/or go to the political forum where it will most certainly be, and I believe is currently, posted. Thanks a lot.

I don't know which "mods" you are talking about. This thread was discuss between myself and patchick and maybe others and it was agreed that it should be stickied. PM me, if you think there is a problem.

This is about getting info to Patriots fans that are going to the SB. This is NOT about individuals and if it turns into being about individuals then it will be deleted.

Now, should the SoCal Bong's thread about SB parties be merged with this one?

I'm going to merge this with the sticky thread. The sticky thread will remain unless it starts being about individuals intead of information.

That's fine by me. There may be some duplication that can be removed. In fact there's already some duplication in this thread on its own.

Duplication is part of learning, atleast for me.

Re: Announcements & advice for those heading to AZ (Merged)

Anyone know where "radio row" will be? Is it an area open to the public (at least to see from behind the ropes/fence)?

Absent changed circumstances, ticket markets don't tend to turn around. But who knows? I followed super bowl tickets on ebay loosely the past few years, and the trends don't seem to reverse, although I think there's so much demand that the drops tend to be slower and slower as the game gets close.

I bought a ticket on gameday for Superbowl XXX outside the venue, but I don't think that experience is too helpful here. With fakes and color copying and stuff, you really need to be careful. There aren't many natural "scalping" areas near the stadium, but you never know. My sense is that with super bowl tickets the super scalpers have all gotten rid of their inventory before game time, so the only supply right around game time is of people who may at last minute have been stuck with an extra or two, and there are way more people trying to buy tickets at a discount than there is supply.

When the Fiesta Bowl was the national championship a few years ago, there were hundreds of people who wanted tickets and very few who had them. Those who had them were asking outrageous amounts, and those looking were acting all indignant and saying, "oh, just wait until the game starts." Well, once the game got close, the opposite happened. Ticket prices went way UP as those who didn't have tickets started to panic.

Re: Advice for buying SB XLII tickets

This is sad, here i am a mere hours drive from glendale and a superbowl showing and the ticket prices are so... high.... maybe it's because i've never researched the ticket prices before but they seem outrageously expensive... for 2,500 you can go to 3 big time UFC events and sit with Chuck liddell in the front row IIRC.

you can see street fights in the city for free, around 3:00am..why pay for it?

First and foremost, once you've exhausted all personal contacts for finding tickets, eBay is the only way to go, in my opinion. The prices are generally lower than the broker sites. It's really a balancing act between price and timing. Have you made your travel and hotel arrangements? Have you decided you must have your tickets in hand before traveling, or are you willing to do in-person pickup from a broker in Glendale? There's a bit of risk involved no matter how you do it.

I gambled and purchased cheap flights for my buddy and myself to San Diego the week before the AFCCG ($233 round trip from Manchester N.H.). We'll rent a car and drive two hours to a hotel in Yuma Saturday night, then drive three hours to Glendale Sunday morning. Sunday night staying again in Yuma, and flying back home Monday afternoon.

I got tickets through an eBay auction that ended 2:30 a.m. Thursday, the pair costing $4,741. This was the best price among all the auction winners I saw up to that time, and these were better seats than most -- sec. 416 (upper deck) row 13, Patriots side, about the 15 yard line. Here's the kicker: Many potential bidders passed this one up because the seller would accept only a money order as payment (no Paypal). He had great eBay feedback, though, with a history showing he had sold World Series tickets, so I investigated further. After several e-mail exchanges and phone conversations with the seller, I determined he was trustworthy and had good reasons for not accepting other forms of payment. He had been screwed in the past by people defaulting/reneging even via Paypal (yes, it's possible) and other forms of payment. I have all his contact information -- name, home address, phone number, etc. Yeah, it's still a risk, but an educated one I was willing to take. (And you can bet that if I end up being a sucker you'll all hear about it in this forum.) I'm comfortable with the transaction and expect the tickets to arrive by Tuesday at the latest.

I personally would not fly to the game without tickets in hand. I know many brokers/agents on eBay promise quick and easy local pickup at a hotel or other temporary site the day before or day of the game, but too much can go wrong -- flat tire, getting lost, a crowd of people waiting to pick up their tickets, etc. That's why I think it's best to deal with a private individual who has the tickets IN HAND and can overnight them to you directly.

So again, it boils down to how much you can afford and how quickly you need the tickets. E-mail and/or talk to the seller, investigate their eBay feedback. Always use Paypal (which offers some protection) unless you are convinced that other payment methods are safe. AND ABOVE ALL ELSE: Do not look at this logically or else you'll NEVER go to a Super Bowl. I mean, spending thousands of dollars for a football game? It makes no real sense, but believe me, having gone to Super Bowls 38 and 39, it is worth every penny. :rocker:

Re: Who is going to the big game???

If anyone is looking for a (reasonably priced) motel in Tempe, I have an extra reservation from Wed - Mon (5 nights).

Its where I am staying as well and I can check in for both rooms when I arrive Wednesday evening.

PM me for details.

Re: Advice for buying SB XLII tickets

sec. 416 (upper deck) row 13,

Those a really good seats, actually. You'll be happy.

There are stories of bad stuff happening with ebay, but it's all risk/reward. I always think the brokers who have very high feedback numbers and who have sold big ticket items in the past have the most to lose -- one negative feedback that says "did not deliver super bowl tickets" is not something they can really afford.

Do your homework on ebay. Find out how the person got their tickets. If they say they are a Cardinals season ticket holder that was picked in the lottery, ask them to e-mail you a copy of the invoice with their name on it. If they say they were picked in the NFL lottery, ask for the letter they received.

Re: Who is going to the big game???

Stick with that 3.5 hour thing on super sunday and you'll be happy to get there in the second quarter.

That drive sucks. Been there. Done that. Not 3.5 hours.

Plus, one issue on that road and you're toast for hours. Do yourself a favor and leave early on Sunday.

How about the drive coming in from the west on Route 8 from San Diego? Anything to be aware of? Recommendations? I'll be there with AStack75 (sec. 416 row 13), lodging in Yuma Saturday and Sunday nights.

Re: Advice for buying SB XLII tickets

anybody know what to look for on the actual ticket that proves it is authentic? I remember SB38 had a hologram on the reverse that changed from the NFL logo to the space shuttle or something (symbolizing Houston) when you moved it.

Re: Advice for buying SB XLII tickets

Its true the prices have taken a free fall, which is absolutely awesome. I would personally comparison shop for your tickets because your using respectable brokers with full guarantees but your also getting the best price.

I use http://www.ninjatickets.com , it compares stub hub ticketsnow, razorgator, ticket network (ticketliquidator/tixspark), and ticketcity.

If you are going to buy just from craigslist or on ebay make sure you get a credible story of how they got the tickets, try to find pictures of the tickets and compare them to the pictures (or better if you can see them) they provide. Good luck finding some tickets, the prices have now become attainable.

PS heres the link to comparison shop super bowl tickets

Re: Advice for buying SB XLII tickets

There's a really cool sight called esnipe.com which will shoot your bid in at the last posible second. If your not a regular ebayer, sniping is waiting till the end of the auction to bid so you avoid needlessly bidding items up when you bid against people who are either kicking tires or going up by the min increment. It also gives you a shot at catching someone sleeping on the end of the auction. If you use this sight be sure to enter the max. amount you are willing to pay, because even if you are the last bidder if you try to just nickel and dime the last bid you could lose if the last bidder had entered a higher amount than what the current bid is. Ebay bids in increments over the last bidder's high bid so you might not necessarily pay what you enter(your max) but you want to try to outbid the last guy. It's also fun to watch because you know the last bidder thinks he's won the auction up until it's over when it will announce you as the winner, I used this sight for the championship game and got a good seat at a good price. Also, look for auctions that end at times people on the east coast might not be able to access their computers(ie late at night, rush hour etc) because your bid will be sent automatically and you won't have to access your computer to bid.
Good Luck

I've used these tools before and have won quite a few auctions by sniping. You won't always win but when you do, you'll be like that guy in that commercial where he's in his basement and he wins a hand in online poker and starts the "YES!! YES!!" chant.
