Draft Day 2: Official Rounds 2-3 Thread

Gimme Alexander and one of the several good RBs left in rd 2 and some OL depth in RD 3 preferably tackle.

@Rapsheet
#Browns have 11 picks total, today and tomorrow. I'm told they want to acquire at least 4-6 more. … What's the record for most picks ever?

Potential trade partner

Guys I'm watching for today:
OT Jason Spriggs, Indiana
LB Reggie Ragland, Alabama
RB CJ Prosise, Notre Dame
RB Kenyan Drake, Alabama
WR Tyler Boyd, Pittsburgh
WR Charone Peake, Clemson

I'd be stunned (but thrilled) if Spriggs or Ragland make it down within range of a trade up for us.

If we trade up, who do we trade up for?

Bullard? A'Shawn Robinson?

I really like Henry too but admittedly I am biased toward skill position players as I have zero clue as to how to evaluate OL, etc.

I still have trouble with it. Generally I look at them vs a bunch of different guys. Smaller bending types, bull rushers, the tricky guys who can do almost all the moves... Just see how they preform vs all of them.

For OTs the first things i look at are frame, feet, body control. You can learn power and technique if it is a bit sloppy. Then i see how they do against all kinds of guys they face.

For G's or C's I tend to look at different things depending on the type of interior line men they are. Some pull and some push and some anchor. Generally though for interior guys i look at power, tenacity, anchor and hands.

I wanna see if they can push a 320lb DT around or stop him cold and if they have the hands speed to stop one of those smaller DTs from spinning and swimming in between you and the guy next to you. I never expect a G to be able to stay with those guys step for step but can he get a hand on him and stop his momentum and hand him off with stopped momentum and force him out of the gap.

Generally though OL is a huge pain to evaluate. That is why i try to keep it to so few guys a year.

I posted this in another thread but it makes more sense here.

Guys i would be willing to possibly use a 2rd and 3rd to get.

Alexander - CB
Myles - LB
Ragland - LB
Robsinson - DT
Bullard - DT/DE
Shepard - WR
Clark - OT
Spriggs - OT

These are the guys i like the most for value and skill. A lot of other players are projected ahead but i think these ones stick out from the pack.

Also i should note i have a strict "don't trade up for RBs almost ever" policy.

I think Spriggs is the better guy if you need to play him game 1 next season but i love the upside of Clark. People are saying he can be a top 10 tackle and i think he can.

Bring him in here to back up for a year and have Scar teach him and i think he reaches that potential.

That's a lot of picks, though. Why do they feel they need like 18 draft picks?

Could the Pats move to the top of round 2 with one of their 2nd rounders + a 2017 4th?

Would that be enough?

I'm hoping they could move up to grab A'Shawn Robinson or Jason Spriggs.

Have you seen the talent on that roster? Yeah me neither.

They've got new analytics guys in their front office - Paul DePodesta who used to work for Billy Beane with the Oakland Athletics, and was GM of the Dodgers for a period. Probably thinks the best chance of getting 5 good players is by having 17 draft picks.

Not unless they deviate completely from the chart. We'd probably be talking both seconds for an early second plus a late round pick. One second plus both thirds could also work, if only this was 2017 and the comp pick was tradeable.

Just gonna reiterate what many have said.

If either Myles Jack or Jaylon Smith falls to us, we really should take a chance (assuming our medical staff clears their knees from future problems). While neither will contribute next season they are insane talents and worth using a second round pick for, and it seems neither has character issues that Easley has.

Or grab a DT if neither are available.

Then grab one of Michael Thomas/Kenneth Dixon/Tyler Boyd and I'd be happy.
I would take Jack in the second, even trade up for him. I've heard pat kirwin repeatedly say that teams are worried he might only have a 5-6 year career, but kirwin also points out that's longer than most 1st rounders. So why couldn't jack play this year? As for smith I wouldn't spend a second, maybe the second 3rd rounder though.

Because they are one of the few teams where that many players could make the team.

Are you trolling? They don't have a 2017 4th.

Yeah its funny, after qb, OL and DL are BY FAR the next 2 most important units to a teams success. That was true 30 years ago when teams ran the ball a ton and its true today when they pass a ton. Truth is, rbs wrs and dbs are almost irrelevant compared to these groups. I include lbs with dl now especially with the Pats since all of our lbs do a fair amount of passrushing-both interior and edge. But like you said, unless you have the time to analyze hours of film(i dont),then its difficult to rate ol especially. I started doing something many years ago-in the 70's-and it was because the best player we had was hog hannah. Along with leon gray, sam bam et al is was and still is the greatest running team in nfl history. So when im watching the game, every other play, im totally ignoring the ball. Im ONLY watching the ol. Yeah i would miss some exciting offensive plays and tv cameras didnt help since they follow the ball. Then i started doing the same for dl. That was eye-opening. It really gave me an appreciation for seymour, wilfork and others.

So what unheard of safety will we be getting this year?
